Anurag Basu, who had directed Ranbir Kapoor starrer Jagga Jasoos, has revealed that he had approached Irrfan Khan to play the actor’s father!
Anurag Basu was planning for a sequel of the film Life In A Metro with Irrfan Khan. The two of them couldn’t work together in Jagga Jasoos. Hence, they were planning to work on the sequel.
Basu revealed to Mumbai Mirror how Irrfan was miffed with him for not writing a role for him in Gangster. “I made up with a role in Metro which showcased his lighter side, which I was acquainted with from our TV shows. As Monty, lrrfan was a riot,” the filmmaker added.
Talking about how Irrfan suggested the idea of sequel, Anurag said, “I had approached him to play Ranbir’s (Kapoor) accident-prone, adoptive father in Jagga Jasoos. He was busy with other films then, and since Jagga Jasoos’s dates were all over the place, we couldn’t collaborate on that project. But he told me, `Chal, Metro sequel banate hain.”
During the promotions of the film Qareeb Qareeb Singlle, he even reminded the director about the project. “I wanted to make Metro 2 only with Irrfan. Now I don’t know… I really don’t know,” said Anurag.
Irrfan Khan had passed away on April 29th, this year after a year long battle with his tumour.
