Death Threats To Love Island Contestant Chloe Burrows ‘Wholly Unacceptable’, says ITV

ITV has condemned the death threats posted to the famous Love Island contestant Chloe Burrows, calling them “totally and wholly unacceptable”.

On Wednesday night’s program, Burrows opted to meet Aaron Francis, leaving Shannon Singh single.

The move led to Shannon leaving the dating program, prompting people to send threats and hate to Burrows on social media, with some urging her to commit suicide.

‘Utterly Disgusting Trolls’

In a message posted on the contestant’s Instagram handle, the family members of the 25-year-old described the criticism and trolls as utterly disgusting.

“This morning we woke up to another DM [direct message] encouraging Chloe to commit suicide – there were hundreds,” they wrote.

“Not only that, but people filled her inbox and threatened to kill her. People … this is a game show, there’s a cash prize!”

What Else Did The Family Say?

The family said they understood “the frustration” about Singh’s dismissal – but Burrows, of Bicester in Oxfordshire, “did not deserve to die” as a result.

“The deaths of Sophie, Mike, and Caroline didn’t teach us anything?” They added, referring to contestants Sophie Gradon, Mike Thalassitis and former Caroline Flack.

All three were killed by suicide, although their deaths were not linked to the show or trolling on social media.

‘Wholly Unacceptable’

In a statement posted on Twitter, ITV said: “We want Love Island to be a good place for all our players and their friends and family members.

“The episode last night created a strong reaction but some viewers opinions were not welcome at all. They are wholly unacceptable” (paraphrased)

It added: “We take these matters extremely seriously and will support cast members and their families in reporting such posts.

“We would once again urge all of our viewers to think before posting, and remember that our Islanders are people with feelings.”
