The official list for the celebrities who will be participating in the 29th season of Dancing With The Stars has been revealed.
ABC has revealed the names of the celebrities we would see in the new season after months of anticipation. On Wednesday’s episode of Good Morning America, it was revealed that there will be a former Bachelorette, multiple athletes and entertainers present.
The reality show is set to return on September 14 and we cannot wait to watch this season.
The cast includes Backstreet Boys’ AJ McLean, Tiger King star Carole Baskin, Selling Sunset’s Chrishell Stause, former Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe, former NFL player Vernon Davis, Jesse Metcalfe, Monica (head coach from Netflix’s Cheer), Anne Heche, Skai Jackson, One Day at a Time actress Justina Machado, The Real host Jeannie Mai, Grammy Award-winning rapper Nelly, Catfish host Nev Schulman, NBA superstar Charles Oakley, and Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir.
In an announcement promo, Davis said, “I may have a Superbowl ring, but I need that mirror ball trophy”. While Aldama added that this is one competition she was born to win.
Kaitlyn said she would like a few 10s from the judges and joked about “no longer accepting roses”. Meanwhile, controversial figure Carole Baskin told GMA that with this reality show, she is hoping people see her in a new light.
Carole Baskin and Nelly Talk About Participating
“The biggest thing for me is the longer my partner and I can stay in the running and in the competition it will keep the cat’s forefront in the viewers’ eye, and to me, that was where Tiger King missed the ball,” she said.
The Tiger King alum added that it really should have been about the animals and she is hoping with this reality show, she will do that. Baskin added, “I am competitive but I am competitive with myself I want to do the very best that I can possibly do.”
Nelly was recently named as one of the new DWTS cast members and said he was up for the challenge. He said he is a Scorpio and he feels like he can do anything and says this will be his biggest test. The rapper added that he loves competition and thinks this will set him apart from everyone else.
Back in July, the long-time hosts of DWTS Tom Bergeron and co-host Erin Andrews would be parting ways with the show. ABC later revealed that Tyra Banks would be taking over for the hosts. She will also act as an executive producer for the show.
Tyra revealed that she has been a fan of DWTS since the beginning. The fun mixed with raw emotion, seeing celebrities push past their comfort zones, the sizzling dance performances … it’s always transported me to my days of turning it up 10 notches on the catwalk,” Banks, 46, said in a statement.
The businesswoman also took a moment to appreciate the previous host, Tom, and said they have set a powerful stage. She expressed her excitement to continue his legacy as well as be an executive producer.
President of ABC Entertainment, Karey Burke, appreciated the host as well. They said, “Tom has been an integral part of the ABC family for nearly two decades, from hosting AFV to Dancing with the Stars – we are grateful for all he and Erin have done to make Dancing a success”.
Karey further welcomed Tyra to the dancing stage and introduced her as the host. He said Tyra is an award-winning “multihyphenate” who will bring her fierce female prowess and influence across many industries. Burke continued, “Her fresh take on America’s favorite dancing competition will surely bring more than a ‘Smize’ to fans everywhere.”
Season 29 of DWTS will premiere Monday, Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
