CW’s Powerpuff Girls Revealed: Dove Cameron, Chloe Bennet, Yana Perrault

The CW’s Powerpuff Girls are coming to life. Dove Cameron, Chloe Bennet, and Yana Perrault have been roped in to star in the network’s live-action take on the beloved Cartoon Network animated series.

The pilot of the live-action was ordered last month. The series revolves around the Powerpuff Girls who used to be superheroes. Now they are in their 20-something as they regret having lost their childhood to crime-fighting. The question arises of them returning and if they will be willing to reuniting when the world needs them.

Dove will be playing the character of Bubbles Utonium, who had won America’s heart as a kid. The character still sparkles as an adult but her charming exterior belies an unexpected toughness and wit. Her character is initially more interested in recapturing fame than saving the world. However, she might surprise fans and herself.

The actress has earned a Daytime Emmy for her role for Disney Channel’s Liv & Maddie in 2018. She is also known for her performance in Disney’s Descendants and NBC’s Hairspray Live among others.

The casting of Powerpuff Girls will reunite Dove and Chloe who have worked together on ABC’s Marvel drama Agents of SHIELD. Chloe will be portraying the role of Blossom Utonium who holds various degrees. She was a spunky, reliable, little-miss-perfect child. Her trauma from her superhero days has left her feeling anxious and reclusive and she aims to become the leader again. The actress is known for her role in ABC’s Nashville.

This means that Yana will be playing Buttercup Utonium who was a rebellious badass of the trio. She is sensitive even though her tough exterior would suggest otherwise. Buttercup has spent her adulthood trying to shed her Powerpuff Girls identity and live an anonymous life.

The actress was recently an art of Broadway in Alanis Morisette’s musical Jagged Little Pill. And before the pandemic, the singer was bound to join the cast of Hamilton. The live-action take of Powerpuff Girls is based on the original Cartoon Network animated series. These characters were created by Craig McCracken and Heather Regnier while Diablo Cody will be writing the script.

The duo will be executive producing with Berlanti and his Productions banner partner, Sarah Schechter, and TV president David Madden. Maggie Kiley will also act as executive producer and will be directing the pilot.
