Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Chennai Super Kings, September 30 2021, 7:30 PM IST

Team News

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Unavailable: T Natarajan continues to be sidelined due to Covid.

Tactics & Matchups: It is very important for SRH that Kane Williamson manages to have a good outing once again after his fifty against RR. He averages over 46 against CSK and SRH would want their captain to lead from the front especially with an inexperienced trio of Abhishek Sharma, Priyam Garg and Abdul Samad to follow in the middle order.

Probable XI: Jason Roy, Wriddhiman Saha (WK), Kane Williamson (C), Priyam Garg, Abhishek Sharma, Abdul Samad, Jason Holder, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Siddarth Kaul, Sandeep Sharma

Chennai Super Kings

Tactics & Matchups: Deepak Chahar has gone wicketless in the powerplay in five out of his last six games in the IPL. Perhaps, there is no better opportunity than this to break that duck against Jason Roy and Wriddhiman Saha at a venue that’s been the best for fast bowlers in the UAE phase so far.

MS Dhoni does have a strike rate less than 100 against Rashid Khan so the CSK skipper will have to find a way to rotate the strike frequently if those two face off.

Probable XI: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Faf du Plessis, Moeen Ali, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (C & WK), Sam Curran, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Josh Hazlewood

Interesting Stats:

  • SRH have picked only seven wickets inside the Powerplay – the fewest among all teams. CSK has lost only 10 wickets in this phase – the joint fewest for a team alongside MI.
  • Since joining CSK in 2012, Jadeja has won the most Man of the Match awards for CSK – two more than the next best of nine by MS Dhoni.

What the Captains said:

CSK Captain MS Dhoni after win against KKR

“It’s a very nice victory to have. What we’ve seen in cricket is at times you play good cricket and lose the game, while at times you don’t really play well but still if you win the game – it’s slightly more enjoyable for the simple reason that you’ll still address the mistakes but going back one and a half hours to Dubai you’ll be in a better mood. So a terrific game at the end of the day. It was good cricket from both sides and it was a pleasure for the spectators. I think in patches we bowled well. Bowlers took responsibility. Not to forget it was hot and humid.”

SRH Captain Kane Williamson after win against RR:

“It’s a good feeling, some real clarity in roles as well and it’s nice to be back to winning ways. There were a couple of periods of play that were quite significant and we closed nicely with the ball

And to get off the start with the bat like that and it was never easy, had to weather some storms with the ball holding up. It’s nice to finish with a win. Any team he comes in he (Roy) brings that, did what he does take the game and it’s nice to see him do well.”
