John Langley, the founder of the popular and long-running television program Cops has died.
Langley died Saturday due to a heart attack in Baja, Mexico while competing against the Coast Ensenada-San Felipe 250 in an off-road street race, a family lawyer told The Hollywood Reporter.
He was 78 years old at the time of death.
He is best known for creating the Cops show on Fox at that time. It first appeared on the network in 1989.
The Cops series had aired over 1,000 episodes and became to be known as one of the longest running television shows in history.
Langley’s official produced the the Cops TV program with his son, Morgan Langley.
Cops was canceled by Fox Network in the year 2013 after a 25-season successful broadcast. Then, the forerunner of Paramount Network, Spike TV, took over the series.
The series continued following the re-launch and re-branding of Spike as the Paramount Network, which also had the rights to cover the show’s past seasons.
In addition to entertainment, Langley created his own off-road race team known as the COPS racing team.
Langley received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in February 2011.
Langley is survived by his son Morgan, who oversees Langley Productions, his wife Maggie, son Zak, daughters Sarah Langley Dews and Jennifer Blair and seven grandchildren.
