Cardi B Made History At The 2020 American Music Awards

Cardi B made history at the American Music Awards 2020 as she became the first artist in history to win Favourite Song in the Rap/Hip Hop category.

The rapper won the award for the first time back in 2018 for Bodak Yellow. However, she came back to win the award for her superhit number WAP with Megan Thee Stallion.

The singer was unable to attend the award show virtually or in-person to accept the award. She shared how grateful she is for her fans who voted for her and Megan. “Thank you guys soooo much. Me and Meg really appreciate all the love from fans, celebs, everybody that supported the song,” she wrote. “Also thanks for voting. Ugh if I would have known all this was going down today I would have rescheduled my dentist appointment. I’m so swollen.”

The rapper also had an audio message attached to her thank you tweet. She shared how she wishes she would get an award, she would not have gone to her dentist. Cardi said now she is talking crazy and thanked everyone and noted that she loves everyone.

Back in 2018, when she received the award for Bodak Yellow, the rapper thanked her daughter Kulture. “I really want to thank my daughter. And not just because she’s my daughter,” she explained. “When I was pregnant, I was so influenced to be, like, ‘Yo, I got to do this, I got to show people wrong. I got to prove people wrong.’ Because they said I wasn’t going to make it after I had a baby.”

However, even if Cardi couldn’t make it to the award show, Megan did. The rapper was nominated for four additional awards. She performed her new song, Body at the event.

“If people didn’t wanna hear it, if they were so afraid to hear it, it wouldn’t be doing as good.”

In an interview with The Kyle and Jackie O Show, the rapper slammed haters for criticizing her track. Many people have argued that the song is provocative.

Cardi said that the people that are bothered by the song are conservatives or really religious people. She explained that she grew up listening to songs like this and other people might think it is strange. The rapper says it is really normal for her to have these songs.

She added that she does not want her child to listen to the song and clarifies saying it is for adults. Previously this month, her song had hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart just days after its release.

“You wanna know something? It’s what people wanna hear,” Cardi said in her latest interview. “If people didn’t wanna hear it, if they were so afraid to hear it, it wouldn’t be doing as good.”

Cardi B called out Trump supporters for dancing on her recent hit, WAP. The rapper took to Twitter to slam Trump supporters for having a party and dancing to her song.

This comes after few Republicans and democrats took offense to the lyrics of her song, WAP. They criticized the song and its lyrics which made the song popular, as well as controversial.

Cardi reposted a clip of Trump supporters holding banners of Trump 2020 and having a party amid the lockdown. The supporters were dancing to Cardi’s song and holding up banners supporting Trump. It seemed like a boat party, with young supporters wearing the ‘Make America Great Again’ hats.

Cardi Calls Out Trump Supporters

The rapper wasn’t pleased with their raving and partying to her song. She called out the Trump supporters asking, “Wasn’t republican conservative[s] throwing a little fit bout this song ?” She continued saying this bothers her and she is going to call the FBI at the party. Cardi also noted that they are not quarantining.

Cardi was also taking shots at conservative talk show host Ben Shapiro wondering why Trump supporters would be jamming to her song. The group of Trump supporters partying did not maintain social distancing or wear masks, ignoring the safety precautions needed to be taken amid the pandemic.

WAP music as well as the video was full of controversies. Cardi addressed the controversy surrounding the raunchy lyrics. She said she was surprised that it was so controversial. The rapper said she knew it was going to have a big impact because of her and Megan. However, she said she did not know it was going to be so controversial. Cardi said, “I never expected that you know, conservatives and Republicans were going to be talking about the song.”

She admitted that she did not think the song was as vulgar as they said it was. The rapper added, “Like, I’m so used to it. I’m such a freak that I didn’t think it would be a big deal. I didn’t think people would think it was so out of this world …”

However, Cardi says she does not mind criticism as it brings more attention to the song. She said it does not make her angry rather it makes her happy. The ‘I Like It‘ rapper added as the critics talk more about it the number keeps going up. She said, “At the end of the day, whatever they’re saying, the numbers speak for themselves.”

Controversies Surrounding WAP

The WAP music video has also slammed for its big cat imagery and celebrity cameos as well as its NSFW lyrics. Carole Baskin, Tiger King star said that the video sends a horrible message and it is harmful to the future of big cats. Cardi clapped back referencing the allegations that were made against her on Netflix docuseries Tiger King by zoo owner Joe Exotic. The rapper said it is ridiculous and clapped back saying she killed her husband.

Meanwhile, fans were upset about the way Kylie Jenner and Normani were featured in the video. When Kylie enters the video, the music stops while Normani is seen dancing on the beats. Fans were so upset that they even made a petition to have Kylie removed from the video.

The rapper responded to the controversy saying Normani is one of the best female artists that dances. She asked her fans why will she let Normani open a door if she is a dancer. Cardi said, “Please tell me how that would make sense? The best part of the song is the beat & hook it what makes you want to shake your ass.”
