K-pop appears to be on its way to becoming a global phenomenon. More award shows are recognizing the effect of K-pop after many groups were nominated for MTV VMAs and EMAs.
BTS had previously announced that their English track, Butter had been nominated for the 2022 Grammys in the Best Pop Duo/Group Category. And now they’re causing a stir at the People’s Choice Awards (PCAs) in 2021.
People’s Choice Awards decided to start an award show that would look at the criterion that genuinely contributes to someone’s influence and renown, which is their followers; because award programmes are rigged to the judging panel being biased.
The American event honors performers in the entertainment industry by popular vote, i.e.; the winner is chosen by the people. With the Hallyu Wave sweeping the globe, it’s no surprise that K-pop groups such as BTS and K-dramas such as Squid Game are popular choices.
On December 7, 2021, at 9 p.m. ET, the People’s Choice Awards will be telecast. The 2021 PCAs will be broadcast on both NBC and the E! Network.
Nominations
Squid Game
The popular Korean drama is currently the most-watched Netflix show. It’s no surprise that Squid Game has been nominated for the 2021 PCAs, with it being considered for Emmys and other awards. It has been nominated in the category of The Bingeworthy Show of 2021. It’s against Cobra Kai, Loki, Mare of Easttown, Outer Banks, Sex/Life, Ted Lasso, and The White Lotus, among other things.
TXT aka Tomorrow X Together
TXT is the second boy group to be housed by HYBE LABELS after BTS. They’re creating ripples in the worldwide music industry, as well. Their album Freeze became Billboard’s longest-charting K-pop album in 2021. They’ve also been nominated for MTV Millenial Awards and VMAs, as well as winning Latin BreakTudo Awards and Japan Gold Disc Awards. They’ve been nominated for the 2021 PCAs in the ‘New Artist’ category. 24kGoldn, Bella Poarch, Giveon, Olivia Rodrigo, Rauw Alejandro, Tate McRae, and The Kid LAROI are their opponents.
BTS
Since BTS has been nominated for multiple awards, ARMY has been the busiest. The international K-pop group has been nominated for AAA, MTV EMAs, and PCAs in 2021. They’ve been nominated for the PCAs four times in three categories. They are in the ‘The Group Of 2021’ category; Butter is in ‘The Song Of 2021’ category, and The Music Video Of 2021 category. In addition, their collaboration with Coldplay, My Universe, has been nominated in the category of The Music Video Of 2021.
How to Vote
Voting has begun and will continue until November 17 on Twitter and the PCAs’ website. Fans must vote by logging in via email or Facebook. In each category, one user receives 25 votes every day. Users can also vote on Twitter by tweeting their votes or retweeting someone else’s vote. The words ‘vote,’ the nominee, the category’s hashtag, 2021, and #PCAs should all be included in the tweet.
