The two artists have had a tumultuous relationship for years; but it appears that things are about to change after the ‘Toxic’ singer called out Aguilera on her Instagram account; for refusing to speak about her conservatorship ending after 13 years.
On Thursday, November 18, Christina Aguilera was sighted on the red carpet of the Latin Grammy Awards; where she was questioned by a journalist if she and Britney Spears had communicated; or if they planned to celebrate the latter’s conservatorship ending. Christina Aguilera, who didn’t seem to want to talk about Britney; said, “No, we’re not doing that tonight, I’m sorry,” while frowning at the question when her publicist interrupted her.
Before exiting the difficult scenario, Aguilera expressed her happiness for Britney Spears. Apart from calling out her former competitor; Britney released a clip of Lady Gaga publicly criticising the singer’s conservatorship on her Instagram stories.
On Friday, November 19, Britney Spears, who has over 35 million Instagram followers; tweeted a small clip of Christina Aguilera’s interview and openly called her out; claiming she loves and adores her but refusing to talk was similar to lying!!!! “I love and adore everyone who supported me but refusing to speak when you know the truth, is equivalent to a lie!!!!”, said the 39-year-old singer.
“13 years being in a corrupt abusive system yet why is it such a hard topic for people to talk about??? I’m the one who went through it!!!! All the supporters who spoke up and supported me, thank you… yes I do matter!!!!!” she added. She further thanked every one of her fans who spoke out and supported her.
Britney Thanks Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga discussed Britney’s conservatorship at a red-carpet event, and the award-winning musician made another subtle dig at Aguilera by sharing that and thanking her as well. “Thank You Lady Gaga for genuinely taking out time to say something so kind. You made me cry. I love you,” she wrote.
Christina Aguilera had written a lengthy thread on Twitter in June offering light on Britney’s conservatorship for the uninitiated. “These past few days I’ve been thinking about Britney and everything she is going through. It is unacceptable that any woman, or human; wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish.”
When Britney Spears called Christina Aguilera out on Instagram, social media users reacted quickly. The bulk of them chastised the latter for failing to address the situation and then leaving. A fans wrote, “I’m glad Britney came for Christina Aguilera’s a**. I know Britney’s drama is none of her business but she could have gotten out of that question without sounding like a bi**h.”
Another posted, “Britney Spears has every right to be frustrated. people only speak up on her situation when it benefits them cause wtf did that man mean “no we’re not doing this right now” Christina Aguilera knows how this industry works.”
The next one shared, “Britney ending Christina has the TL as chaotic as the night Trump announced he had Covid.” One user tweeted, “Love xtina but seriously disappointed with how she handled the situation. Britney is right in calling her out”. Meanwhile, another said, “Xtina always been bitter and jealous with Britneys success and impact. She a Britney wanna be remember? Jealousy is a decease.”
