Biden’s All-Women White House Communications Team

President-elect Joe Biden and Vice-President-elect Harris on Sunday announced a senior women’s communication team at the White House, including former Obama White House communications director Jen Psaki as secretary of state.

President-Elect Biden’s Statement

“I am proud to announce today that the first White House communications team was exclusively for women. These qualified, experienced consultants bring a variety of their work and collective commitment to building the country back to better,” Biden said in a statement.

The Team

Kate Bedingfield, who served as deputy campaign manager and communications director for the campaign, will be the communications director at White House.

Pili Tobar, a former federation communications director for the campaign, will serve as deputy director of communications at the White House. Karine Jean-Pierre, a senior adviser to the Biden campaign who later became Harrison’s chief of staff, will serve as deputy secretary general of news.

Symone Sanders, Biden’s senior advisor on the campaign, will serve as a senior adviser and senior vice president’s spokesman. Ashley Etienne, senior advisor on the Biden campaign, will serve as vice president’s communications director.

Elizabeth Alexander, senior consultant for the Biden campaign, will serve as director of communications for mother Jill Biden.

These seven women, most of whom are women of color, will play a significant role in the management.

Harris, who will make history as South Africa’s first female vice president, described the newly-elected group as “experienced, talented and barrier-breaking.”

“Our country faces unprecedented challenges – from the coronavirus epidemic to the economic crisis, to climate change, and the long-term perception of racial injustice. Previous Roles Of These Women

Psaki, a former CNN political analyst, was also a spokeswoman for the State Department during the Obama administration, and had previously served as deputy White House communications director and deputy secretary of state at the White House. He has served in three presidential campaigns, including the 2008 Obama-Biden traveling campaign secretary and the traveling secretary and senior advisor to the 2012 campaign, and as deputy secretary general for the 2004 John Kerry campaign.

Bedingfield worked at the White House under Obama’s administration as Biden’s communications director. He previously worked for the Motion Picture Association of America, where he was vice president of corporate communications. Bedingfield was also a spokesman for the 2008 President John Edwards campaign, as well as communications director for the 2008 Senate 2008 Senate campaign in New Hampshire.

Tobar previously worked as a deputy director for America’s Voice, a group working for immigration rights. He has served as Hispanic news director for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, Hispanic national news director and regional secretary for the western Democratic National Committee, communications director for Arizona Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego and communications director for the Latino Victory Project.

Jean-Pierre worked for the presidential campaigns of Obama and Martin O’Malley and worked as a political analyst for NBC and MSNBC. He was a public relations officer at MoveOn.org and in charge of the American Civil Liberties Union’s Reproductive Freedom Initiative.

Sanders served as Vermont National News Secretary Sen. Bernie Sanders during her 2016 presidential campaign. He later joined CNN as a political analyst. Sanders is a former chairman of the Coalition of Juvenile Justice Emerging Leaders Committee and was a member of the Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice.

Etienne previously served as communications director and senior adviser to the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, and was the first woman and native to hold the position. Etienne was a special aide to the President and Cabinet communications director under the Obama administration, and also led communications with Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper program.
