Before signing the film, Kit Harington had never heard of Eternals’ Black Knight
Kit Harington, who plays Dane Whitman/Black Knight in the new Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film ‘Eternals,’ says he didn’t know much about his alter ego when he auditioned for the role but was drawn to it because of the “essence of the character.”
When asked if he knew who the character was before the movie, Harington told Variety: “No, it’s not true. To be honest, I had never heard of the character before. I had to do some research on him and learn the basics. However, I find the character’s essence and powers to be incredibly fascinating.”
According to femalefirst.co.uk, he adds he has no idea where Marvel would take the character but is grateful for a superhero with “meat to get into.”
According to the former ‘Game of Thrones star, “God only knows where it’ll end up. So I’m not sure, and I can’t say whether, where, or if they’ll take the character. But I felt the idea of him holding something that appears to be cursed had a lot of meat to it.”
The film is his first major production since his role as Jon Snow on ‘Game of Thrones ended, and the actor has no concerns about transferring from one massive property to another.
“I don’t believe you have a say in when these things happen. Would you be interested in being in this movie if Marvel called and said, “We’ve got this interesting character for you…”?
“I mean, it had been about a year and a half since I’d finished filming ‘Thrones.’ It looked like a no-brainer to me since it appeared like an engaging character and a wonderful universe. I have nothing against being a part of a potentially long-running series. They’ve done a fantastic job for me! It’s been a lot of fun for me. As a result, making the decision was not difficult. It was a pretty easy decision once I realized what they were going with this a” the director, it’s Marvel, the character’s cool – he added.
