Barbra Streisand Calls Out Hollywood’s Pay Gap in Meet the Fockers Revelation
Entertainment legend Barbra Streisand has sparked renewed debate about gender pay disparity in Hollywood, revealing she was paid significantly less than her male co-star, Dustin Hoffman, for their roles in the 2004 hit comedy Meet the Fockers. The film, which grossed over $522 million worldwide, featured Streisand as the beloved Roz Focker, yet she earned roughly a third of Hoffman’s salary.
In a recent interview promoting her upcoming album, Streisand expressed frustration over the pay gap, stating, “I was hurt, and frankly, pissed off. We were both key to that film’s success.” The disparity, she said, underscored the gender-based inequities rampant in Hollywood at the time. “It wasn’t just about the money. It was about respect.”
Streisand’s comments come as she reflects on her iconic career, from her Oscar-winning performance in Funny Girl to her trailblazing work as a director. The Meet the Fockers experience, she noted, highlights systemic challenges women in the industry continue to face. “Progress has been made, but we’re not there yet,” she remarked, citing ongoing wage gaps in film and television.
Adding fuel to the discussion, Streisand hinted at talks for a potential Meet the Parents 4. She made it clear, however, that reprising her role as Roz would require a substantial offer. “If they want me back, they better come with a serious check,” she quipped. “I know my worth now.”
Streisand’s revelations have struck a chord with fans and industry watchers, amplifying calls for greater transparency and equity in Hollywood. While her Meet the Fockers co-stars, including Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller, have not publicly responded, Streisand’s outspoken stance is reigniting vital conversations about fair pay.
As she prepares to launch her latest musical project, Streisand’s fearless voice—on and off the screen—continues to cement her status as a cultural powerhouse. “I’ve never been afraid to speak up,” she said. “And I’m not stopping now.”
