ASTRO’s Sanha Comes Under Fire For Racist Comments After Aespa’s Giselle

Netizens have condemned ASTRO’s Sanha for his rude statements on what appeared to be a variety show. Sanha makes a paper plane that doesn’t appear like a paper plane at one point in the film.

When the host inquired about the plane’s appearance, the idol replied, “Reggae locks.” The ‘dreadlocks’ hairstyle used by members of the Black community is known as reggae locks. He also made comments regarding black people’s braids, which enraged his Black supporters and angered netizens. Sanha did not stop with his insults, according to a fan who was present when the video was filmed.

Sanha, along with others, participated in a dance fight in which he wore a plane on his head that resembled a braid; and walked like a traditional Black rapper with a Jamaican accent. On YouTube, some fans suggested that the idols be educated and made aware of such issues. This comes after aespa’s Giselle was caught lip-syncing the n-word while dancing to an SZA song.

Many people have also argued that it is difficult to be a K-Pop fan when idols refuse to educate themselves. When a fan defended the performer by saying it was all in good fun, they were chastised for being disrespectful. Black children have been expelled from school and adults have been denied employment prospects because of their natural hairstyle.

Fans Are Tired Of K-Pop Idols Racist Behaviour

All of these facts were brought to the fan’s attention since he was unaware of the far-reaching consequences of his actions. Fans reacted to Sanha’s statements on Instagram as well, saying that it was past time for the stars to grasp the repercussions of their behaviour. Given the multitude of scandals that have rocked the business this year, many people wondered what was wrong with idols.

There is no shortage of negative news for the K-Pop industry, from bullying allegations to lip-syncing to slurs. Sanha, ASTRO’s member, returned to work at the end of September after completing a week of quarantine. The agency issued a statement at the time, which read:

“Members Moonbin and Sanha, who were ordered to quarantine until September 28 (today) after being identified as having had close contact with a COVID-19 positive case, have both tested negative for COVID-19 during their final PCR examination. As a result, Moonbin and Sanha plan on resuming all activities beginning on September 29.”
