Murphy nabbed her first ever nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her work in the show’s farewell season. Alexis, after years of personal and professional growth (with heartbreak of course) decides to leave the small town to continue growing her business in New York City.

The Bacon-Choking Moment

Annie Murphy had a little bit of an Alexis Rose moment when she found out the good news. The actress revealed that when the nominations were going out, she was actually sitting on her floor enjoying a nice plate of bacon and pancakes. When Annie found out she’d been nominated, she immediately choked on a piece of bacon, out of surprise.

“I was sitting on the floor eating pancakes, and I’d just finished choking on a large piece of bacon. I gathered around my laptop and found out that way. It was like a shriek followed by a yell and then my name and then some, like, garbled English, and I pieced it all together and realized that I’d been nominated. Actually, the bacon choking was post-finding out. It was a reactionary gasp,” she clarified.

“I’m very grateful to have played a character that was all about love and kindness and inclusivity”

Annie went on to explain how the nomination caught her by surprise because she’s put so much love and hard work into the show over the years. “I’m very grateful to have been on a show and played a character that was all about love and kindness and inclusivity,” she said. “By the end of it all, at least, Alexis was all of those things. Especially during these times, those are incredibly important things that people are looking for. I’ll never stop being grateful for that.”

Pizzas, Pajamas and Mimosas

Murphy even revealed her plans for the Emmys, which are likely going to be virtual this year in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, are similarly chill. Win or lose, the actress confessed she’ll be rocking pajamas and eating pizza while at home waiting for the results.

“There will be pizza and pajamas. That’ll be the extent of my plans,” she said. “I’ll put that out in the open right now. It’s kind of my natural state anyway, so that’s what I’m looking forward to. Did I mention the pizza? It’s all very wonderful and exciting. Wow, I think there are mimosas on the horizon. It’s a lot. But a wonderful lot.”

“It means so much to be nominated with all of them”

The actress also touched on her excitement for the recognition and nominations the show, it’s cast and crew got. “It wasn’t just the actors who were recognized. There are so many insanely talented people that worked on the show over the last six years. So having writing and hair and makeup and costume design and directing and editing (getting nominated), like, all across the board. These are all people that are so wonderful that I love so much and so it means so much to be nominated with all of them.”

Annie confessed, “it goes without saying,” that her lovely co-stars would be nominated. Creator, Dan Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy and Emily Hampshire, along with their co-stars are surely just as excited about the show racking up the nominations they deserve.
