Alessandro Peticchia, a multilingual solar energy expert based in Milan, has become a prominent figure in renewable energy with a specialization in solar photovoltaic (PV) projects. Having led and contributed to initiatives across North America, South Africa, Italy, Morocco, India, South Korea, and Vietnam, Alessandro’s experience spans continents and contexts, showcasing his adaptability, technical acumen, and commitment to clean energy.

Starting as a Junior Buyer with Enel Green Power in Rome, Alessandro quickly advanced to become a Solar Project Engineer in the U.S. At Enel’s Massachusetts office, he played an instrumental role in the development of over 500 MW of solar PV plants across the United States. His international experience has proven invaluable, enabling him to navigate complex regulatory environments and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring project success across diverse regions.

Building Impactful Projects: Alessandro’s Approach to Solar PV

When it comes to his project preferences, Alessandro gravitates towards high-impact, innovative initiatives that require interdepartmental collaboration. He explains, “I thrive in environments where collaboration between design, operations, and finance is essential. These projects provide opportunities to align engineering with strategic business objectives, fueling productivity and the team’s passion.”

This collaborative approach has allowed Alessandro to execute technically advanced projects that align with business goals, underscoring the strategic role engineering plays in the clean energy transition.

A Day in the Life of a Senior Solar Engineer

Alessandro’s workday is structured around maintaining technical alignment, project progression, and clear communication. After catching up on emails and project management updates, Alessandro reviews designs and technical documentation, often troubleshooting alongside engineers to ensure all technical aspects meet the project’s scope. “I frequently meet with project managers, clients, and senior management to discuss project progress and make key decisions,” he explains. His focus on broader technical strategies ensures current projects align with long-term objectives.

This diligent approach supports Alessandro’s goal of overseeing projects that not only meet immediate requirements but also contribute to the sustainable energy transition through strategic vision and operational precision.

A Milestone Moment: Reviving Solar Energy

One of Alessandro’s proudest achievements came early in his career when his first solar project received approval from Enel’s Investment Committee. At the time, Enel had been focusing on other renewables, and this marked a return to solar energy development in the U.S. Alessandro’s project approval wasn’t just a personal win—it was a strategic shift for the company.

The approval process required extensive collaboration, from engineering and environmental compliance to financial analysis. “It wasn’t just about getting the numbers right; it was about reviving solar energy development within the company,” Alessandro reflects. This pivotal project underscored solar energy’s value within Enel and positioned the company to lead the U.S. market in solar initiatives, a move that further cemented Alessandro’s reputation as a key player in the renewable energy sector.

Powering 50,000 Homes: The Lily Solar + Storage Project in Texas

Alessandro’s expertise also led him to the Lily Solar + Storage Project in Kaufman County, Texas, a landmark initiative for Enel Green Power. This 181 MW solar farm, paired with a 55 MW battery energy storage system (BESS), represents a cutting-edge approach to grid stability and clean energy production, capable of powering over 50,000 homes. The BESS component allows the project to store surplus energy for use during peak demand, reducing emissions while stabilizing the grid.

“I was assigned to the Lily project as a Solar Project Engineer,” Alessandro recounts. “It was the first solar PV and BESS project in Texas by Enel Green Power.” This milestone marked Enel Green Power as Texas’s largest BESS operator, highlighting Alessandro’s role in pioneering impactful renewable energy solutions in one of the largest energy markets in the U.S.

Looking Ahead: Alessandro’s Goals for 2025

Alessandro’s goals for the future are to focus on advancing his technical knowledge and expanding his expertise in project development and renewable energy finance. By gaining a broader understanding of the financial landscape, Alessandro aims to make more informed, strategic decisions that contribute to his development as a versatile leader within the renewable energy industry.

As the world accelerates towards a more sustainable energy future, Alessandro Peticchia’s work, and ambitions are set to make a lasting impact. His blend of technical expertise, strategic vision, and global experience positions him as a leader in solar PV and renewable energy innovations.
