Akshay Kumar – Rise to Fame
The journey from being a waiter in Bangkok to being a superstar in Bollywood was not an easy one at all. But the actor Akshay Kumar has done it with utmost grace. His journey has been full of struggles but an inspirational one at the same time because we all know where he stands today.
He was born in a Punjabi family and his real name is Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia. The actor was not interested in studies from the very beginning. So as soon as he completed his intermediate studies, he started doing menial jobs. Later, he went to Bangkok where he worked as a waiter. Meanwhile, Akki also learnt martial arts as he was always interested in learning defence skills.
After his five year long stay in Thailand, he decided to return to the country. In the span of a few years Akshay had changed professions several times. From working in a guest house in Mumbai to working in a travel agency in Kolkata and in a hotel in Dhaka, Bangladesh, he shifted his base very frequently.
Ultimately, his fate brought him back to Mumbai where he started training kids in martial arts. It was then that a father of one of his students saw him and offered him a modelling assignment. While he had no clue about the field of modelling back then, Akshay worked with the photographer Jayesh Sheth as his assistant for 18 months to get his portfolio.
His good looks helped him in getting modelling assignments and he soon started working as a background dancer in B-town films. Akshay wanted to achieve more as he went to several studios asking for work. The turning point came in his career with his break in Bollywood. His first appearance was in the 1991 film Saugandh.
Since then there has been no looking back for the actor. He has given both hits and flops in his three decade long career. But one thing which is remarkable about Akshay is that he never stopped. There was a time when he had even given 12 consecutive failures. But it was his sheer dedication which made him bounce back to give blockbusters like Baby, Pad Man, Kesari and Housefull.
He holds the title of Khiladi Kumar in the nation, all thanks to his seven films whose titles include the word ‘Khiladi’. The actor is also known for his power packed action scenes as he mostly performs his action sequences himself.
Akshay Kumar has been honoured with the title of Padma Shri by the government of India. He has received Asian Awards for his contribution to cinema.
Today, he enjoys the position of a superstar in the country with several films releasing every year. He is one of the very few stars who work on multiple projects at a time and is still able to deliver fabulous performances. He is also one of the most followed Indian celebs on the social media platforms.
From a struggling artist to a superstar, his journey has truly been an inspirational one!
