Ajay Devgn To Make Digital Debut With Remake of Idris Elba’s Luther

We found out just a couple of days ago that Ajay Devgn will be making his OTT debut with a web series produced by BBC India and Applause Entertainment. It was also reported that the web series would be an edgy crime drama that would air on Disney+ Hotstar.

There has been a new development on the news as the makers have finally announced the series. According to the makers of the show, the actor will be portraying an intense and gritty new cop avatar as he makes his grand entry into the digital platform. This will mark to be his first-ever crime drama series. The series is titled Rudra- The Edge of Darkness which will be coming soon on Disney+ Hotstar VIP.

Rudra will go into production quite soon and will be shot across iconic locations of Mumbai. It will be an engaging and dark take on cop stories which will then be combined with their unique storytelling format and powerful characters. Fans of thrillers and crime-drama will be more than excited for this venture to release.

The show is produced by Applause Entertainment in association with BBC Studios India. It will recreate the iconic and fan-favorite British series, Luther for Indian audiences. Hotstar Specials have gotten into competition with other streaming platforms over the past year. The digital entertainment platform had shows like Aarya which was a crime story given the twist of a female gaze.

Hotstar has also released Criminal Justice that revived courtroom drama, The Legend of Hanuman which is an animated series that was loved by all age groups alike. There was also the announcement of a first-of-its-kind multiverse with Special Ops 1.5. Rudra will mark it as the next move by Hotstar Specials in raising the quality content in India.

Speaking about the show actor Ajay Devgn said, “My attempt has always been to tell unique stories and work with good talent.  The idea is to raise the bar of entertainment in India. The digital world excites me, and I am looking forward to working with Applause and BBC to bring this series to life on Disney+ Hotstar VIP.”

The actor further shared that the show is a compelling and highly intriguing story and he cannot wait to begin this new journey. He added that playing a cop is not new to him but this time the character is more intense. The actor shared, “Rudra – The Edge of Darkness is a compelling and highly intriguing story and I can’t wait to begin this new journey! Playing a cop on screen is not new to me, but this time the character is more intense, complex, and dark. What drew me most to his persona is that he is possibly the greyest character you may come across in recent times.”

Following the tremendous accomplishment of series including Criminal Justice, City of Dreams, Hostages and The Office, Hotstar Specials and Applause Entertainment continue their long-term partnership for this massive series, produced in association with BBC Studios India. Rudra – The Edge of Darkness will soon be available for all subscribers of Disney+ Hotstar VIP and Disney+ Hotstar Premium.
