A look back at the controversies that followed, ahead of the release of The Family Man 2

On Amazon Prime Video two years ago, directors Raj & DK released The Family Man, a spy series in which actor Manoj Bajpayee made his digital debut.

Srikant Tiwari (Bajpayee), a regular middle-class man with a secret identity as a senior analyst in the fictional, was introduced to fans in The Family Man, which became one of the most successful Indian digital shows in 2019. He works as a senior analyst for the National Investigation Agency (NIA) of India’s fictional Threat Analysis and Surveillance Cell (TASC).

The 10-episode series follows him as he alternates between agent and family man roles, guarding the country from terrorists during the day and being a quiet husband and father at night. Priyamani, Sharad Kelkar, Neeraj Madhav, Sharib Hashmi, Dalip Tahil, Sunny Hinduja, and Shreya Dhanwanthary also appeared in the first season.

“At the end of every production, every filmmaker has a storey to tell about the highs and lows. Season two of The Family Man has proven to be our most difficult production to date. For all of us, these are trying times. There isn’t a single one of us who hasn’t experienced loss or pain. While we grieve the sad loss of life, we are grateful for the brave deeds and courage of frontline workers and everyone else who is working tirelessly to provide help during these difficult times “Raj and DK collaborated on the initiative.

Controversy

The Family Man 2 was supposed to return earlier this year, but it was postponed due to the controversy over Amazon’s Tandav and Mirzapur episodes.

Vaiko, a Rajya Sabha member and MDMK leader, filed a letter to Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar on May 19 asking him to halt the show’s airing. He claims it shows Tamils in a terrible manner. According to Vaiko, the show portrayed “Tamilians as terrorists and ISI agents with ties to Pakistan.” “These descriptions have damaged the sensibilities of Tamil people and Tamil culture and are insulting toward the Tamil community,” he wrote in an excerpt from his letter.

Raj and DK said in a statement last week that they respect Tamil people’s feelings and that the second season of the show will have “a sensitive, balanced, and engaging storyline.”
