Marvel’s WandaVision receives its first Emmy nominations
WandaVision received numerous Emmy nominations this morning, allowing Marvel to break through in the Emmy nominations. Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Vision, played by Paul Bettany, were the stars of the MCU’s first original streaming series, which premiered in January.
The series, which took place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, follows Wanda as she dealt with her grief over Vision’s death in Infinity War. As a result of her sadness, she creates the Hex, which traps the town of Westview, New Jersey. This Chaos Magic takes you on a journey through decades of sitcoms, including I Love Lucy, The Brady Bunch, and The Office.
Emmy Nominations
WandaVision was the favorites to win a number of Emmy nods going into the 2021 Emmy nominations, out of both Marvel shows. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was not as well received as WandaVision, and Loki premiered too late to meet the deadline.
Both Olsen’s acting as the grieving Scarlet Witch and the general writing of the series as an homage to the Golden Age of television received critical acclaim. It was also considered as a departure from what has come to be known as the “Marvel Formula,” signalling a desire to try new things in the long-running franchise.
WandaVision is one of the most nominated shows in the Emmy category for 2021, collecting a total of 23 nominations. The Mandalorian and The Crown both received 24 nominations, putting the series behind them. Both Olsen and Bettany garnered Emmy votes for their performances, while Kathryn Hahn was nominated for her portrayal as Agatha Harkness for the second time. WandaVision was also nominated for Best Limited Series and received a host of technical awards.
