Evil, the blockbuster original series from Paramount+, has already been renewed for a third season, just three episodes into its second season.

Evil, which airs weekly on Paramount+, ViacomCBS’ live and on-demand streaming service, follows Katja Herber’s cynical forensic psychologist Kristen Bouchard as she investigates the church’s backlog of unexplained phenomena, including hauntings, miracles, and possessions, with Mike Colter’s priest-in-training David and Aasif Mandvi’s contractor Ben Shakir.

The three work together to investigate the existence and origins of evil from both a scientific and religious viewpoint.

Second Season of Evil

When it originally aired in 2019, the first season was one of the most well-received television shows. The second season of Evil appears to continue this tendency, with Kirsten grappling with her darker side, David struggling with his decision to become a priest, and Ben disturbed by night terrors. Michael Emerson, Christine Lahti, Skylar Gray, and Maddy Crocco also star in Evil.

Despite its critical acclaim, Evil struggled to maintain excellent weekly ratings, with viewers dropping from 4.56 million to 3.19 million between the first and last episodes of Season 1.

According to Paramount, the show has been a huge draw for the streaming service since switching to Paramount+ for its second season, with the show showing higher ratings week after week. So much so that despite the current season just having three episodes under its belt, Paramount has decided to renew the show for a third season.

Positive Trend

Hopefully, this optimism is well-founded, and Evil can maintain its upward path in ratings. With the project being directed by Robert and Michelle King, who previously helped launch ViacomCBS’ previous streaming channel, CBS All Access, with their critically acclaimed series The Good Fight, this is likely to be the case.

Given the show’s continuous great reviews and the fact that Evil appears to be on the rise, it’s very possible that audiences will watch a lot more Evil and rush to Paramount+ as a result.
