Danai Gurira, the Black Panther actress, is said to be returning in a Marvel Disney+
Danai Gurira is set to reprise her role as Okoye in Marvel’s Black Panther Disney+ series, according to reports. Following the success of Chadwick Boseman’s performance as T’Challa in Captain America: Civil War, Marvel Studios released his solo feature in 2018.
Ryan Coogler’s film earned well over $1 billion at the box office, was nominated for Best Picture and eight other Academy Awards, won three of the golden statues total, and became a worldwide sensation. Black Panther was bound to become the next major Marvel Cinematic Universe property as a result of all of this.
Marvel Studios has decided not to recast T’Challa in the wake of Chadwick Boseman’s death, but will continue to tell stories set in the Black Panther universe. Coogler is now working on the Black Panther sequel, Wakanda Forever, as well as a Disney+ series. Proximity Media, his production company, recently acquired a five-year deal with Disney to develop shows for their whole media empire. At this point, the only confirmed project is a Black Panther spinoff series set in the kingdom of Wakanda.
Back to Marvel
There have been little details about the Black Panther Disney+ series, but one cast member appears to have been identified. Some of Hollywood’s finest lawyers were recently profiled by THR. One of the deals mentioned having to do with Marvel’s Black Panther show, and the piece contains a portion for Jamie Mandelbaum. After Black Panther 2, he reportedly arranged a contract for Danai Gurira to reprise her role as Okoye in the Disney+ series. Marvel has yet to make a formal announcement on her return. It’s also worth noting that the show is described as a “origin offshoot series” in the article.
When the Black Panther Disney+ show was announced, many fans worried about which actors from the films would appear. Okoye, played by Danai Gurira, seemed like an obvious option for the lead. Okoye is the leader of the Dora Milaje, Wakanda’s all-female royal guard.
Okoye and the Dora Milaje are logical choices for the series, which is planned to expressed sections of Wakanda. Gurira is no new to television, having played Michonne on The Walking Dead for numerous seasons. Florence Kasumba’s Ayo and other members of the Dora Milaje may be more likely to return as a result of this.
