In Memoriam segment of the Oscars 2021 pays tribute to Irrfan Khan, Sushant Singh Rajput and Rishi Kapoor
The In Memoriam portion of the Academy Awards paid tribute to filmmakers and musicians who passed away in 2020, as it did last year. Not surprisingly, with the number of people who died this year, the list was long.
Ian Holm, Sean Connery, Max von Sydow, Christopher Plummer, Chadwick Boseman, and our own Bhanu Athaiya and Irrfan Khan were among the popular deceased personalities honoured.
Bhanu Athaiya was the first Indian to receive an Academy Award, for Best Costume Design in the 1982 film Gandhi. Irrfan Khan, an international star, died on April 29 after a long battle with cancer. Angela Bassett began the In Memoriam with a sombre look back on the previous year.
The absence of Rishi Kapoor and Sushant Singh Rajput from the list has been noted by their fans on social media. They were, however, honoured in a special In Memoriam section on the Academy Awards website.
