Drake has come forward to criticize the Grammys for not nominating The Weeknd. The duo was rumored to be feuding after being collaborators once.

However, all the rumors were put to rest when the rapper offered his support to him by coming to his defense. The Weeknd was not nominated even for one category which caused an outrage on Twitter among fans and followers. The rapper said he thought that The Weeknd will be a sure nomination for this year’s Grammy Awards.

Drake shared a text post on his social media with a blue background. He shared the sentiments of thousands of fans who claimed that the Grammys snubbed the singer. The rapper shared his thoughts and said that they should stop allowing themselves to be shocked every year.

The Rockstar rapper shared that the disconnect between impactful music and the awards should not come as a shock. He said that people should accept that the highest form of recognition no longer matters to the artists that exist now.

Drake wrote, “I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artists that exist now and the ones that come after.”

He explained that it is like expecting a relative to fix up but they would not change their ways. The rapper recalled how the other day he had said that The Weeknd was a lock for either album or song of the year. He shared, “This is a great time for somebody to start something new that we can build up over time and pass on to the generations to come.”

Was The Weeknd Snubbed Because of His Super Bowl Performance?

Drake thinks the structure of Grammys might insulate it from any attempts to reform it. He suggested putting stock in a new way. The rapper is familiar with the situation as he was once snubbed by the Grammys. His nominations and wins have not really gone hand in hand with his music or the critical acclaim he has received.

The rapper’s album back in 2018, Scorpion was certified platinum before it was released. It had broken the single-day record of Spotify for global streams on its first day of release. It was also his eighth album in a row to have debuted on top for Billboard 200.

However, the album received mixed reviews and it was not a part of the nominations for the Rap Album of the year award. Drake also mentioned how Lil Baby, the late Pop Smoke, Popcaan, and PartyNextDoor were the artists overlooked by the awards.

As for The Weeknd, his album, After Hours topped the charts of Billboard 200. It also earned the best first-week sales of any album this year. The Weeknd has also voiced out the frustration as he complained that the awards were corrupt.

The singer suggested that his decision to perform at the Super Bowl might have caused him to receive no nominations for his hit album. “Collaboratively planning a performance for weeks to not being invited?” he wrote. “In my opinion zero nominations = you’re not invited.”

According to an entertainment portal, the singer was required to skip the Super Bowl LV. However, insiders claim that the singer was shut-out because of negotiations.

Recording Academy interim chief Harvey Mason, Jr. responded to the singer’s public complaints in a statement to Rolling Stone in which he admitted that he was ‘surprised’ that The Weeknd had been overlooked, though he claimed that voting had concluded before the Super Bowl performance had been announced.
