Wonder Woman 1984 To Be Released On HBO Max And In Theaters This December
Wonder Woman 1984 will be released this year in U.S. theaters on December 25 as announced by Warner Bros. However, keeping in mind the rising COVID-19 cases, the film will also be available on HBO Max.
The studio announced the good news as they took to social media, much to the delight of their fans. Patty Jenkins wrote that the time has come and wrote how at some point one has to chose to share love and joy over everything else. The director wrote, “We love our movie as we love our fans, so we truly hope that our film brings a little bit of joy and reprieve to all of you this holiday season.”
She told the fans to watch it in theaters where it is safe to do so or at the safety of their homes on HBO Max. The director added, “Happy holidays to all of you. We hope you enjoy our film as much as we enjoyed making it.”
Gal Gadot who plays Wonder Woman also echoed the director’s statement and took to social media. She shared the difficult decision and how they never thought they would have to hold onto the release for such a long time. However, she wrote Covid rocked all their worlds.
“We feel the movie has never been so relevant and we hope that it’ll bring some joy, hope and love to your hearts,” Gadot added. “Wonder Woman 1984 is a special one for me and I can only hope it’ll be as special to you too.”
“We made Wonder Woman 1984 for the big screen and I believe in the power of cinema,”
The actress also shared that fans can watch it in theaters where it is safe while others can watch it on HBO Max from their homes. She urged fans to be safe and wear a mask as she wished them happy holidays.
The star cast includes Gal, Chris Pine back in action after their roles in the 2017 movie, Wonder Woman. The movie also included Kristen Wiig and Pedro Pascal. The sequel to the movie was originally set to release back in June, however, the ongoing global pandemic made it impossible for the release.
“We made Wonder Woman 1984 for the big screen and I believe in the power of cinema,” Patty said at the time. “In these terrible times, when theater owners are struggling as so many are, we are excited to re-date our film to Aug. 14, 2020, in a theater near you, and pray for better times for all by then.”
Wonder Woman grossed over $412 million domestically and over $821 million worldwide against a $149 million budget. The sequel has already been delayed several times amid the coronavirus pandemic.
