DWTS Fans Take A Dig At Julianne Hough’s “Greta” Goof-Up
On Monday night, the season 30 finale of Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) aired, with Iman Shumpert being crowned the winner. The episode had many highlights, but the biggest was the return of show alum Julianne Hough to the judges’ panel.
She is a well-known choreographer and Derek Hough’s sister. Derek said he was in quarantine a few days ago after testing positive with COVID-19. Fans were disappointed because his performance was intended to be featured in the finale.
On D Day, ABC made amends by bringing in his sister, Julianne, who is also a fan favourite. The DWTS guest judge messed up while judging the finals; and fans have been slamming her on social media ever since. On the Dancing with the Stars stage, JoJo Siwa and pro Jenna Johnson gave a fantastic performance during the freestyle round. The judges were blown away by how well they performed.
Julianne also praised her for stating that Siwa has the potential to transform the world, and then comparing her to Joan of Arc and Greta Gerwig. Julianne wanted to say, Greta Thunberg, the campaigner, not Gerwig, the actress, according to admirers.
Netizens have been trolling the choreographer since her gaffe:
Derek, Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Bruno Tonioli were the DWTS Season 30 mentors. Throughout the season, judges were told that Cody Rigsby or Olivia Jade were their favourites. Fans criticised the judges for giving the fitness instructor high points even after he advanced to the finals.
The judges granted perfect scores more than once on the night of the finale. The panel did not abandon their ’10’ placard after the first two performances by Amanda Kloots and Rigsby received lower marks.
Check out the DWTS finalists’ scoreboard:
1) Iman Shumpert: 40+40
2) JoJo Siwa: 40+40
3) Kloots: 38+40
4) Rigsby: 36+40
Some viewers complained that the judges were “handing out perfect scores like candy,” while others praised them for being so kind on the final program. Meanwhile, DWTS fans are pleading with ABC to rehire Julianne for the future season.
