Tobey & Andrew Could Be Edited Out Of The No Way Home New Trailer

Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield may have been cut out of the second trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home. The excitement for the upcoming Marvel Studios and Sony partnership film is mounting. Tom Holland reprises his role as MCU’s Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home, directed by Jon Watts; but the film could potentially feature previous forms of the wall-crawler.

The first trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home didn’t come out until late August 2021; therefore marketing for the film started late. Nonetheless, it was unusually open in its disclosures. It established the multiverse plot as well as confirmed how the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home figure into the threequel.

Peter Parker (Benedict Cumberbatch) seeks help from Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) after his superhero identity is revealed; but instead of making things better, the sorcerer’s tainted spell makes matters worse. It appears to have exposed Earth to a variety of multiverse threats; as evidenced by Doc Ock’s (Alfred Molina) entrance in Spider-Man 2.

The second trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home extends on this by showing additional villains from various realities, such as Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin and Jamie Foxx’s Electro. So, if prior Sony Spider-Man villains may appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home; why couldn’t their respective heroes?

Despite frequent reports to the contrary, Maguire and Garfield have yet to be revealed. It’s possible, though; that they were there in the new Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer but were selectively taken out. They could have been involved in a few moments in the trailer; notably, the final construction struggle in which Holland’s Peter confronts five enemies at once.

There’s also a chance that Garfield’s version swoops in to aid because it reminds him of his own universe’s error.

The video includes a slow-motion picture of Spider-Man leaping towards Sandman (Thomas Haden Church). The images are impressive, but it’s worth noting that Lizard (Rhys Ifans) and Electro were both leaping forward; attacking no one. In this scenario, the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer might easily have chopped out Maguire and Garfield’s versions of the web-slinger. Lizard appeared to have been struck by something completely unseen. It’s actually three-on-three combat this way.

It appears to be a highlight scene in the film, akin to the Avengers’ running shot at the start of Avengers: Age of Ultron. It’s also plausible that MJ’s (Zendaya) falling sequence involves at least Garfield’s rendition of Spider-Man. The tragic death of Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) in Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is reminiscent of Holland’s Peter trying to save her as she falls from the top level of the construction.

However, after filming the MCU couple from a broad angle, it moved to a close-up of their hands reaching out to each other. While it’s understandable that Holland’s Spider-Man tries to save his fiancée; there’s also a chance that Garfield’s version swoops in to aid because it reminds him of his own universe’s error.

Apart from saving MJ, it also allows Garfield’s Peter to atone for the mistake that cost him Gwen. It would be a touching scene that would assist both the MCU’s future storytelling and the plot of The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

In order to maintain its mystery, Marvel Studios is infamous for digitally altering scenes in trailers. Some promo photos are removed from the theatrical cut; while others are modified to remove a specific character or element. They even shoot material only for commercial purposes on occasion.

Knowing how important Maguire and Garfield’s roles in Spider-Man: No Way Home is; it’s possible that they decided to keep their appearances disguised until the picture is released in theatres.
