Spider-Man Faces Sandman & Sinister Six In New No Way Home Poster
Three incarnations of Spider-Man battle Sandman and other Sinister Six members in a fan poster for Spider-Man: No Way Home. Tom Holland will star in the third instalment of Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man trilogy, Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Doctor Strange appears in the film and assists Peter Parker when Mysterio reveals his true identity. Spider-Man: No Way Home will feature villains from Sony’s non-MCU Spider-Man films in addition to MCU characters. When Jamie Foxx confirmed his comeback as Electro in Spider-Man: No Way Home last year, it came as a shock; and Alfred Molina confirmed his return as Doc Ock not long after.
Returning villains from Sam Raimi and Marc Webb’s Spider-Man films spurred speculation that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will appear; effectively launching a live-action Spider-Verse. Willem Dafoe’s return as Green Goblin was teased in the official Spider-Man: No Way Home teaser; and the recently published poster gave a first look at the MCU’s Green Goblin. Sandman has also been teased, but Thomas Hayden Church’s casting has yet to be confirmed.
While the role of each enemy in the film is unknown, psychboz has created a fan poster depicting Spider-Man against four of the film’s antagonists. At the bottom of the poster, Maguire, Garfield, and Holland’s Spideys may be seen battling Doc Ock, with Electro; Sandman, and Green Goblin also prominently depicted. The artist’s original work is seen below:
While Church and Dafoe’s appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home hasn’t been confirmed, it’s all but certain. The pumpkin bomb and glider are seen in the trailer and the poster is unmistakably from Dafoe’s Norman Osborn; the trailer’s chuckle sounds just like Dafoe’s. The Church is in a similar scenario as Dafoe; but his involvement hasn’t been hyped as much in the marketing. Sandman appears in various promotional materials; but Empire Magazine’s snippet “Worlds that include Rhys Ifans’ The Lizard, and Thomas Haden Church’s Sandman…” gave the strongest signal that Church will appear.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is striving to accomplish something that both Raimi and Webb’s films failed to do: effectively combining many adversaries in a single film. The plots of both Spider-Man 3 in 2007 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2012 were overburdened. It’s possible that Spider-Man: No Way Home will have the same problem; with three villains officially confirmed and Sandman, Lizard, and Venom speculated. Making non-MCU villains canon within the MCU, on the other hand; is a thrilling concept that will undoubtedly draw in fans when the film hits theatres in December.
