Henry Cavill Is Dedicated To The Witcher’s Seven-Year Plan
Henry Cavill has stated that he is committed to showrunner Lauren Hissrich’s seven-year plan for The Witcher as long as they are able to keep telling fantastic stories.
The Witcher TV series stars Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, a professional monster hunter bound to the destiny of strong princess Ciri, whom Geralt promises to protect as she learns to harness and use her magic, based on Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski’s epic fantasy novels.
While Season 1 created the foundation for Geralt and Ciri’s future adventures, Season 2 will dive deep into their relationship. Ciri will be trained by Geralt to deal with both the Nilfgaardian Empire and The Continent’s looming threat.
The Witcher’s Seven-Year Plan
Ciri actor Freya Allan and Anya Chalotra, who plays Yennefer of Vengerberg, a witch and Geralt’s love interest, return for Season 2 alongside Cavill. Joey Batey, who plays Jaskier, and Anna Shaffer, who plays Triss Merigold, are also reprising their roles from season one. Kim Bodnia joins the cast as Geralt’s father figure Vesemir, a character who will play a larger role in the Netflix show’s second season.
Netflix has felt inspired to continue through with numerous more projects under The Witcher name, including the recently released animated film The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf and a live-action prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin, thanks to the popularity of the series.
Cavill has spoken about the future of his role as Geralt of Rivia and how long his time as the monster killer will last as the popularity of The Witcher franchise grows. Cavill confirmed his long-term commitment to the character of Geralt in an interview with THR, albeit with some caveats. “As long as we can maintain telling excellent stories that honor [author Andrzej] Sapkowski’s work,” he said of Hissrich’s seven-year The Witcher plan.
Cavill clearly admires Sapkowski’s work and wants to make sure that any future appearances as Geralt stay true to the source material. Cavill’s devotion to the project is understandable, given the actor actively pursued the role of Geralt of Rivia when he first learned that Netflix was pushing through with The Witcher adaptation. While it appears that Cavill will only remain in the role as long as the source material is respected, Netflix appears to be confident in the franchise’s long-term viability, with recent reports claiming that Cavill will be handsomely paid for his role in The Witcher season 2.
