Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard Set To Direct His First Feature Movie
While Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard will be seen onscreen in the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife, he will also be seen behind the camera.
Stranger Things, a Netflix original series, provided Wolfhard with his big break. Wolfhard’s performance as enthusiastic Mike Wheeler was largely well-received by fans and critics; with many observing that his character grew stronger with each season.
Wolfhard would go on to play Richie Tozier in Stephen King’s It adaption in 2017; which was also his debut feature picture. Fans and journalists alike loved Wolfhard’s interpretation of the character, calling it a “show-stealer”. Since then, the Stranger Things actor has been in films such as The Addams Family and It Chapter Two.
Wolfhard has also been cast as Trevor in the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife; and is set to play Lampwick in Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming Pinocchio stop-motion remake. While the actor is busy in front of the camera, it appears that he is also working behind the scenes.
Wolfhard is now directing his first feature-length film, according to NME; who spoke with him about his upcoming participation in Ghostbusters: Afterlife. The 18-year-old actor has already directed a short film called Night Shifts; but he’s also working on a “horror-comedy-slasher movie” that “takes place at a camp,” according to reports. At this moment, however, little else is known about the picture. Below is a comment from NME regarding Wolfhard directing his debut film:
Finn Works on His First-Feature Length Film
“When Wolfhard talks about his time on any set, you get the impression he is constantly absorbing and observing, keen to learn absolutely everything about the craft. It makes sense – he has designs on becoming a filmmaker himself. He’s already written and directed a short film called Night Shifts, and is currently working on his first feature-length film. ‘It’s a horror-comedy-slasher movie that takes place at a camp,’ he says, keeping the rest of the details close to his chest for now.”
Wolfhard began his acting career at the age of 11 and has since acquired an excellent resume. Not only has the young actor had the opportunity to work on big-budget films and TV shows; but he’s also had the opportunity to work alongside big-name actors. Wolfhard’s most recent project, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, allowed him to collaborate with Bill Murray, Paul Rudd, and Sigourney Weaver.
The actor has also had the opportunity to collaborate with acclaimed filmmakers such as the Duffer Brothers and Guillermo del Toro. He has firsthand knowledge of what it takes to put on a spectacular show. Given Wolfhard’s burgeoning star status, it’s hardly unexpected that he’s branching out into other genres.
With his work on Stranger Things and Ghostbusters: Afterlife, he could prove to be just as talented behind the scenes as well. While little is known about this maiden directorial effort, it has undoubtedly piqued the interest of many fans.
