Video of Venkatesh Iyer 50 Runs in 32 Balls : 3 Sixes : KKR vs CSK
CSK vs KKR, IPL Final, 15 October, 07:30 PM IST
Dhoni Drops : CSK had a chance to push for a better Powerplay when Josh Hazlewood found the edge of Venkatesh Iyer’s bat. Dhoni went to collect it in front of his face, and the ball wobbled a little. Dropped. And Iyer goes on to hit a six the next ball. KKR 15 for 0 after two overs.
Dead Ball : Ambati Rayudu takes an excellent catch as the high ball from Gill goes higher than the lights and comes down, but it has hit the cable of the spider cam, which means it is a dead ball. Gill comes back and hits two fours later in that over. KKR 88 for 0. They now have a 40% chance to win according to our win probability
Another Brilliant Catch : It looks simple enough. Ball goes up, Jadeja has time to get under, and while he has to dive in the end, he holds on. But hey, watch it again, and it is a sensational recovery in the end. Jadeja realises at the last moment that the ball is not falling quite where he is.
He gets it in his fingertips, but it is right at the edge and is sure to pop out when Jadeja hits the ground. Mid fall, though, he shifts the position of the ball and gets a strong enough grip to hold on. You won’t have seen many like that. Iyer is gone. CSK’s luck has finally turned. KKR 91 for 1 in 10.4.
Josh Hazlewood: “There obviously are a few nerves in the group, but all these guys have been here before and played in a few IPL finals. These wickets have been helpful on occasions. There is enough if you hit the back of a length and make them play shots.
I have bowled a lot upfront and usually one or two in the end. Batting in the powerplay has been the easiest, but I enjoy bowling there and getting the team off to a good start. The pressure is more on the batters. The batters know they have to get off to a good start.
Once five fielders go out, it is tough with these big boundaries. You want to be nice and calm and keep doing what has worked so far. Most importantly, have fun.”
Ruturaj Gaikwad: “I think Shakib was about to bowl two overs. I thought I should take on spin as I am a good player of spin. Faf also played lesser balls up front. It is stopping a little.
We did brilliantly to get to 192 by hitting some brilliant sixes, off good balls too. We need to bowl well and back it up with the fielding. I wanted him (Faf) to hit that six and add those six important runs (for Orange Cap).”
Shardul Thakur: “Sometimes when you’re playing back to back games there’s a rhythm going. But sometimes when you’ve played 4-5 games together, and then you get a break of 4-5 days, that also can be good – helps in the body to recover. Our team meetings are always around two minutes long – our routines don’t change.”
