Lili Reinhart Clarifies Saying Filming ‘Riverdale’ Makes Her Feel ‘Like a Prisoner’
Lili Reinhart clarifies her recent comment about feeling like she is in prison while filming Riverdale.
In a recent interview, Lili said she feels like a prisoner returning to her show’s set because of the Covid-19 restrictions. However, she took to Twitter to clarify that her comment was taken out of context.
“Love it when my words are taken out of context YET AGAIN,” she wrote. The actress clarified that she is not complaining about going back to work. She said she feels incredibly grateful to have a job but she feels sad because she cannot meet her family. Lili wrote, “FFS, leave me alone.”
In another tweet, she said people think she is pissed off all the time because of things like this. “I annoy myself having to speak up about this,” she wrote. In the interview with Nylon, Lili reflected on the precautions that are in place as she returns to the set for the CW show. One of these restrictions include not being able to leave Canada.
“I genuinely feel like a prisoner, going back to work, because I cannot leave Canada,” she said. “That doesn’t feel good. You can’t go home for Thanksgiving, can’t visit your family. No one can come to visit you unless they quarantine for two weeks. It just feels f**ked.”
The Riverdale alum also opened up about having a hard time during quarantine before she returned to work. She reflected to the beginning of the pandemic and how she felt lost and sad. The actress said she felt very hopeless and sad because of the things happening in her life.
“It’s a Very Hard Thing To Do”
Lili added instead of drinking, doing drugs, and distracting herself from her problems, she did the hardest thing. She explained choosing the harder route and facing the problems. The actress said, “I was like, ‘I’m not doing that. I’m going to go through the next however many months of s**t, pure s**t, awful, crying every day, but the necessary work.'”
The Chemical Hearts actress revealed that she has been through difficult things last year. She explained she has experienced a lot of loss and she needed to learn about self-love. Lili said, “It’s a very hard thing to do. How the f**k do you love yourself?”
In an interview with Flaunt, Lili Reinhart opened up about her sexuality and got real. The Riverdale actor did not hold back while opening up about her mental health or her sexuality. The actress came out as bisexual back in June but revealed in the interview that she knew she was attracted to women at a young age.
However, she says she was having second thoughts while going public about it. She did not want to be labeled as an attention seeker or anything worse.
Lili said since she was in a relationship with a guy, she was scared that the media will deem it as her seeking attention in any way. ‘I felt that since I’ve exclusively been in hetero-normative relationships, it would be too easy for any outsider, especially the media, to vilify me and accuse me of faking it to get attention,’ said Reinhart. The actress was in a relationship with her co-star, Cole Sprouse.
Lili on Black Lives Matter
Lili revealed that to her friends and family it was not a secret. But things changed after she attended a protest for the Black Lives Matter movement by queer-friendly enclave of West Hollywood. She said she felt inspired by the way LGBTQ and BIPOC stood in solidarity to fight against justice.
The actress said she felt incredible witnessing so many people fighting for the injustice that is happening right now. She said, ‘Enough is enough and hopefully we’ll see real change from the actions that are now being taken.’
Lili has been an active participant in the Black Lives Matter Movement. She has been giving her platform to educate people about the grave dangers that we are facing as a society. In one such session, she gave her platform to BIPOC activists and authors to speak to her million followers.
‘I felt that I wasn’t doing enough,’ she admitted. ‘And I felt that it was lame to keep reposting what everyone else is posting so I asked myself: “Okay, what do I have to offer?” I definitely learned a lot from the conversations I’ve been having.’
Lili said that it is important to be an ally in the movement but black voices should not be silenced by other voices. She added this is their time to be heard and that white privilege has to be acknowledged. The actress also added that it is important that we do something rather than sitting idle because it involves everybody.
“I’m Not The Same Person I Was”
Lili also radiated her confidence and her energy through the pictures that she posed in, for Flaunt. She was donning Fendi’s 2020 Pre-fall collection. The actress donned a pair of monogrammed tights, a cropped cardigan, and a high-cut thong. Another look offers up a dreamier side, covering Lili in sheer pink silk with ruffles along the edges.
The Riverdale actress also revealed that she has been using quarantine time to slow down. ‘I’m not the same person I was when I flew back from Canada to get back into the States when the borders closed [in March],’ Reinhart told the magazine. ‘The past few years have been so hectic. I often refer to it as a whirlwind’.
In her interview with Refinery29, she said that this is the first time in four years that she has been able to stop and take a step back to look at the changes in her life. Lili opens up about her career and mental health has its ups and downs. She said at one point she felt like she was in a “black tunnel [that] was never going to end.”
The Riverdale star said that she couldn’t see the light and she felt like she is dying. She described it as pretty rough and that there was no way than going through it. The actress further added that instead of trying to fill the void that she felt she should face the pain.
“I’ve seen a lot of people when it comes to heartache and grief and breakups, and they try to get that void filled with sex, with coke, with food, with drinking, [but] the void is still there,” Reinhart told Refinery29. “I took the road less traveled and just dealt with my s—. I had to face my own pain head-on.”
The actress clarified later that quotes from her recent interview are not about a ‘breakup’. Rather it was about the depression she felt all these months. She says she is tired of people taking her words out of context. Lili clarified, “I would never speak so candidly about something as personal as a breakup. That’s incredibly private. I was addressing my depression.”
