
Ravi Shastri tests positive for Covid and is isolated with three other support staff members
The BCCI announced on Sunday that Indian cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri had tested positive for Covid-19 in a lateral flow test. Shastri and three other support staff members have been placed in isolation “as a precautionary measure,” according to BCCI.
Bowling coach Bharat Arun, fielding coach R Sridhar, and physiotherapist Nitin Patel are the other members in isolation. The press release stated, “They have undergone RT-PCR testing and shall remain in the team hotel and not travel with Team India till confirmation from the medical team.”
“Team India’s remaining members were subjected to two Lateral Flow Tests, one last night and the other this morning. The members were allowed to continue for Day 4 of the ongoing fourth Test at The Oval after receiving negative COVID reports “The release was added.
India’s Condition
India resumed Day 4 of the Oval Test on Sunday with a total of 270/3 and a 171-run lead. Skipper Virat Kohli and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja were at the crease.
The visitors were bowled out for 191 in their first innings, and England responded with 290 to grab a 99-run lead.
In the second innings, India fought back, with opener Rohit Sharma scoring his first overseas Test century on Saturday. On Day 3, India dominated the proceedings thanks to Rohit Sharma’s 127 and Cheteshwar Pujara’s 61.
On Saturday, Ollie Robinson removed both Rohit and Pujara in the final session, but England’s bowlers had a difficult day overall. On the penultimate day of the Oval Test, India would be trying to take a huge lead.
The series is now tied at 1-1 after five matches.
