Katy Perry on Why She’s Excited to Raise Her Baby in a ‘Different Way’

In an interview with Rachel Smith, Katy Perry opened up about why she is excited to raise her daughter in a ‘different way’ than she was.

Katy says she wants her and Orlando’s child to grow up leaning into the “magic of life”. “I am just excited to be able to raise her in a different way than what I was raised and to let her think for herself and have a choice and discover and just lean into the magic in life and dress like whatever she wants to dress like for Halloween,” Perry explains.

The singer added that it is going to be really, really important. She revealed she wasn’t allowed to go trick-or-treating or dress up, which is why she has to make up for it so much.

Katy was born into a religious family as her parents were pastors. Because of this, her childhood was heavily influenced by religious beliefs. The singer started her journey of music as she sang in the church and pursued a career in gospel music as a teenager. And later on, she moved forward to become a pop star.

Katy said she is excited and assures she is here to support her baby girl. Although she feels she has been pregnant forever and playfully guesses which would come before- her baby girl or her album Smile. Her album releases on Friday.

“I don’t know who’s going to come first, her or the record. We’ll see what kind of headline she wants if she wants to be the opener or the closer,” she says. The singer says she has a feeling her daughter does not follow.

Katy is taking it all in before the birth of her baby and the release of her new album. However, she says she is happy that her album did not get postponed further amid the coronavirus pandemic.

She said she is thankful that she got to do it all this summer. Katy said the album is a summer record, full of hopefulness, light, and joy. She continued saying it does not just take up space but also noise. The singer, however, hopes that this album inspires someone as she wrote it on one of the darkest times of her life. She explains she wants it to be inspirational because music has always helped her too.

Her latest album comes 10 years after the previous, Teenage Dream. The previous album had five chart-topping U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles. She said Smile has the same energy as the Teenage Dream.

Katy acknowledged the changes everybody goes through from their 20s to the 30s. She talks about her evolution in the past decade. The singer said, “I am so proud of everything I have been able to put out and I love it and I love that Teenage Dream became like a real cool marker for numbers… but I definitely don’t live in that headspace anymore.” 

Katy said she has more dimension and life but she is just not on the popstar rodeo. However, she said she likes to jump on and off everyone once in a while.

The Fireworks singer said that she intents to keep her career in music to go on even after having a baby. She would be shooting for American Idol Season 4 this fall and will still be working on other projects. The singer says a lot of people have asked her that question, ‘Are you gonna, like, go away?’ She added that Beyonce has three kids and she is still putting out Black is King.

Katy says she does not feel the need to choose between what you love and what you love. She said, “It feels like just something that really makes me happy. And I would hope that my happiness is [my daughter’s] happiness and her happiness is my happiness.” 

The singer said she is excited for both the deliveries, be it her record or her baby girl. She also added that 2020 might have a silver lining for her.
