James Gunn Reveals He Has Many Ideas For The Suicide Squad’s Weasel
The writer and director James Gunn has revealed he has a lot of ideas in store for the Weasel in the DC Extended Universe after The Suicide Squad. The character was one of the many, who was introduced from the comic books into the film franchise. Characters like John Cena’s Peacemaker, Idris Elba’s Bloodsport; David Dastmalchian’s Polka-Dot Man, Melchior’s Ratcatcher 2 and Sylvester Stallone’s King Shark and many others were also introduced.
The Weasel was portrayed by the writer’s brother, Sean Gunn. He had also portrayed Calendar Man in the live-action debut of the character. The Suicide Squad is the standalone follow-up of the 2016 film by David Ayer. Amanda Waller brought together a new Task Force X to infiltrate the fictional South American island of Corto Maltese.
The movie premiered on August 5th in theatres and HBO Max and has already proven to be a hit for WB and DCEU. It has also received great reviews from critics for the approach of the movie; as well as the acting of the ensemble cast. However, the movie did underperform at the box office as it was released amidst the Delta variant cases.
The movie has brought back $154.6 million and is becoming the third-highest viewed movie on HBO Max behind Mortal Kombat and Godzilla vs Kong. James had hosted a Twitter watch party this week for The Suicide Squad. He revealed few secrets for the DCEU sequel and answered fan questions.
A fan asked him whether the director would be interested in having an expanded backstory; or continuation of the Weasel’s story from the film. James responded as he teased that he has already done that.
The opening of The Suicide Squad was one of the biggest sequences to establish the tone for the superhero genre. Multiple characters were killed within the first few minutes of arriving at Corto Maltese. This also included the Weasel, however; we saw that the character has actually survived his drowning and woke up at the beach alone as he ran off to the nearby jungle. It could have been written off as a funny moment that would not lead to anything; however, James’ films in both the Marvel and DC Universe have only proved him to be meticulous in what he adds in the post-credits.
James is already in talks with WB and DC for many future projects which we are sure will include the Weasel.
