Earthquake With Preliminary 4.2 Magnitude Shook Los Angeles Area
An early morning earthquake that was felt firmly in Los Angeles has been downgraded to a 4.2 magnitude from its initial 4.3. It occurred less than a mile from Los Angeles, four miles from Santa Clarita, and seven miles from Burbank, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
No immediate injuries or instances of significant damage had been reported as of 5AM, said the Los Angeles Fire Department. LAX remains open.
Back in April, a 3.7 earthquake rattled the city. Around five quakes with magnitudes of between 3 and, 4 occur every year in the greater L.A. area.
Los Angeles residents were given a rude awakening circa 4.30 AM today when a 4.3 magnitude earthquake hit the city. A smaller second shake registered 3.3 shortly after.
Los Angeles International Airport’s operations were not affected by the temblor, according to airport officials.
The Los Angeles Police Department also said its systems were unaffected. “Yes, we felt it too,” said a tweet from the department. “A reminder, when an earthquake does happen, please don’t call 9-1-1 unless you have an emergency.”
The quake’s epicenter was near San Fernando Valley. Many notable residents were rocked out of bed and took directly to Twitter, including Tyra Banks, Zach Braff, rapper Lil Nas, Queer Eye presenter Karamo, Youtuber Lilly Singh, and more.
