Una Stubbs, the actress from Sherlock Holmes, has died at the age of 84

Una Stubbs, a British actress who starred in shows like the BBC’s Sherlock, has died at the age of 84. Stubbs, who was born on May 1, 1937, rose to fame as the cover girl for Dairy Box chocolates.

In 1963, she landed her first major film role as Sandy in Cliff Richards’ Summer Holiday, the first of many collaborations between the two. She continued to act in films and on television after that. She was a member of the core cast of the hit television series Till Death Us Do Part and its several flip.

Stubbs was also well-known for her work in the theatre, having appeared in a number of shows throughout the years. She was in the original cast of the critically acclaimed drama The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time at the National Theatre, as well as NT Live productions including Les Liaisons Dangereuses.

Stubbs was most recognised for her role as kindhearted landlady Mrs. Hudson on Sherlock, opposite Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. EastEnders, Worzel Gummidge, and The Worst Witch were among her other television appearances.

Confirmation of Stubbs Death

Stubbs’ agent, Rebecca Blond, announced the renowned actress’ death on Thursday (via BBC). Stubbs has been ailing for a few months, according to Blond. “Mum passed away softly today with her family around her, in Edinburgh,” her sons Joe and Christian Henson and Jason Gilmore said in a statement. “We ask for privacy and understanding at this most difficult and sad time.”

Stubbs’ last onscreen

Stubbs’ most recent screen appearance was in the 2017 television film Murder on the Blackpool Express, a parody of Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express (and the Kenneth Branagh adaptation that arrived the same year).

Stubbs was a charming onscreen presence from that film all the way back to her first, Summer Holiday. Her tremendous and varied career, as well as her beautiful personality, will undoubtedly be remembered.
