Simone Biles and Boyfriend Stacey Ervin Jr. Have Broken Up After 3 Years of Dating
Simone Biles and Stacey Ervin Jr. have called it quits after three years together. The 23-year-old Olympic star opened up briefly about her split from the fellow gymnast, in an interview with Vogue, revealing that the pair called it quits in early March.
“It’s hard being young and having that long of a relationship and then ending it,” the four-time gold medalist told Vogue. “But it was for the best.”
Timeline
News of their split comes almost exactly three years after the duo confirmed their romance. As fans might recall, the gold medalist went public with her and Ervin’s relationship in Aug. 2017. Biles made her relationship Instagram official after she posted a photo with her beau along with the message, “Always smiling with you.”
The pair would continue to rave about one another with a constant feed of PDA posts. Biles previously declared Ervin the “man of her dreams,” and wrote in January, “I’m excited to love you for a very long time.”
In December last year, the duo enjoyed a tropical getaway in Belize over the Thanksgiving break. Both Simone and Stacey shared a number of loved-up photos from the trip that showed them posing happily on the beach, enjoying date nights, and taking romantic hikes together.
However, Simone now appears to have deleted all images of the athlete from her Instagram account. There is however just one photo of Stacey left. A group shot that features him, Simone, and two other friends. Stacey too has removed every trace of Simone from his own feed. The gymnast now has solo images from their trip to Belize and has taken down any snaps that featured his former girlfriend.
Speculations
Although Simone says that they split in March, it looks as though the former couple did not celebrate Valentine’s Day together this year. Then, in March, Stacey failed to publicly wish Simone a happy birthday which sparked further speculation that the pair had split.
“I believe we’re going to come out of this stronger,”
Simone, who stars In Vogue’s August cover story, talks about her resilience and the coronavirus pandemic’s impact on the Olympics. While healing from her breakup, it was announced that the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo would be postponed until next year. Biles says she wasn’t sure in April if she even wanted to compete earlier. But now that it’s been rescheduled, she’s “starting to train” for the Games.
“I believe we’re going to come out of this stronger,” she says. Once the athletes get back to training, I believe they will put more than their heart and soul into this. They will really have to prove that even this virus stopping the entire world will not take their goals away from them.”
Biles on the BLM movement
Biles also touched on the recent Black Lives Matter protests around the world. She wonders why it took so long for society as a whole to address police brutality and racial injustice.
“We need change. We need justice for the Black community. With the peaceful protests it’s the start of change, but it’s sad that it took all of this for people to listen,” she says. “Racism and injustice have existed for years with the Black community. How many times has this happened before we had cell phones?”
