Prince Andrew to “permanently retire” from royal duties
Prince Andrew will not be resuming his royal duties anytime soon. The Duke of York took a step back from his royal duties in 2019 after being linked with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Sources now claim the Queen ‘can’t see a way back’ for her so-called “favorite” son.
Prince Andrew announced that he would step back from official duties. “The circumstances relating to my former association with Jeffrey Epstein has become a major disruption to my family’s work. I continue to unequivocally regret my ill-judged association with Jeffrey Epstein.”
The Prince could be asked to give up his military commands, including his role as colonel of the Grenadier Guards. The prince reserved them in spite of not performing his public duties.
The disastrous BBC interview
The royal family announced that nothing has changed since Andrew’s November announcement. His decision, 6 months ago, came after the disastrous BBC interview discussing his connection to Jeffrey Epstein. The 50 minute interview with BBC Newsnight’s Emily Maitlis covered a number of topics. Prince Andrew gave details about how he first met Epstein and why he stayed at the latter’s home in 2010. During the interview, Prince Andrew also denied allegations regarding Virginia Roberts.
A new Netflix docu-series “Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich,” talks about the sex offender and stories of survivors. The series brought back to light one of the survivors, Virginia Roberts Giuffre. Giuffre claimed that she was sex trafficked to the prince by Epstein on at least three occasions when she was 17.
After the interview, he was forced to quit as a front line royal. He was asked to give up the bulk of his commitments after many severed ties with him.
Prince Andrew seems to be surrounded by controversies. The Queen’s son is now in a legal dispute alongside his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson. The dispute is over a £6m debt for their £18m ski chalet in Verbier, Switzerland. An insider revealed that the Queen will pay the debt herself to avoid further embarrassment.
