Aber Town 5K Run In Aid Of Mind
Aberystwyth University Harriers organised 5K Run around the town of Aberystwyth in United Kingdom on 2nd November 2019. Eighty people gathered on Saturday for the 5K Run and money raised from the run will go toward the charity Mind programs of mental health. The charity Mind plays a huge part in the community, Aberystwyth and within Aberystwyth University. The main message of the event was to combat mental health in sport and raise awareness that sportsmen and sportswomen do suffer from the pressure and demands of their sports. Sport can also help in many ways to realise endorphins, help people feel better and increase fitness by doing a local parkrun or a 20 min walk.

The route ventured from beautiful seafront and wind through the streets of Aberystwyth. There were goodies for every finisher along with prizes for the winners on the day.
Cara Leanne Farley, President of Aberystwyth Harriers said “It’s our first ever event to organise and we were looking forward to the challenge of organising a big event and as it was for such a great cause. Despite the weather on the morning of the race the turn out of runners was fantastic! Really happy with how many students and locals came to support the event and helped raise awareness of mental health in sport”.
She further added “We’re delighted to say we raised £1,065 to donate to Mind Aberystwyth. There was a lot of “behind the scenes” organising but we couldn’t have done it without the Round Table and Tesco Aberystwyth for their donations and to those who marshalled on the morning of the event.

One of the runner said “Overall event is fantastic and the marshals out on route were very helpful. There was a great atmosphere at the finish line. It is very friendly and very well run”. Andy Hughes, one of the organiser said despite the cold weather, runners and volunteers came out to support our event.
