Joey Graceffa and Daniel Preda are no longer together. After dating for nearly 6 years, the beloved Youtube couple are going their separate ways. The YouTube stars announced their split in an emotional 14-minute video over the weekend entitled, “We broke up.” Joey and Daniel explained to fans that they had ended their relationship three months ago. However, the duo still continues to live together after their breakup.
“So we broke up three months ago and we’ve been living together still since then. It was like the worst. Not the worst time, but it was like, obviously not ideal timing,” Joey said as he teared up. “This has been really, really hard and a very uncomfortable decision,” Daniel confessed as he consoled Joey.
“I don’t think either of us has been happy for a while”
Joey went on to tell viewers, “It definitely hasn’t been an easy decision for me, it’s obviously easier to stay. We’re doing what’s best for us and we both know that this is what needs to be done, what we both need to do to be happy, because I don’t think either of us has been happy for a while.”
Daniel clarified that the pair hadn’t broken up as a result of the lockdown. “We don’t want you guys to think that just because of what’s happening in the world broke us up. This has been coming for a bit.” In fact, Joey explained that, with the time given to them, they’ve been able to address “what’s been kind of building up over the past couple of years.”
“We can still maintain a really strong relationship”
The pair assured fans that they have nothing but “love and admiration” for each other, confirming that their breakup was amicable. “We want to stay in each other’s lives and be friends past this,” Graceffa expressed. “I think these past three months have shown that we can still maintain a really strong relationship.”
What happens of their pets?
Joey and Daniel have sadly decided that they’ll be splitting up their dogs, but will take care of each others’ animals when the other is out of town. They’ll also maintain play dates for their dogs, and Graceffa will continue to have a close relationship with Preda’s mom.
Preda and Graceffa confirmed their relationship on February 14, 2016, which was nearly a year after Graceffa publicly came out on YouTube. Preda made his first big appearance on Graceffa’s channel in May 2015, as his co-star and love interest in the Don’t Wait music video.
Celebrating their anniversary last year
Last July, the couple had celebrated their fifth anniversary together.
“Time flies when you’re in love!” Joey wrote alongside a series of photos with Daniel. “Can’t believe it’s been 5 years since I met this beautiful man. Sometimes being picky has its perks. Even though we are complete opposites in so many ways… we still fit together perfectly,” Joey continued. “Happy 5 year anniversary @misterpreda Love you to the moon and back mister.”
