Will The Stark Family Play An Important Role In House of The Dragon?

The Stark family would definitely go a long way, although in the first episode we only got to see Rickon Stark for a few seconds. For the unversed, the name Rickon might be familiar to Game of Thrones fans. Rickon was the name of Lord Eddard Stark and Catelyn Stark’s youngest child who died in the Battle of the Bastards.

However, in the prequel, their ancestor Lord Rickon Stark makes an appearance before the Targaryens. David Hounslow, who plays Rickon Stark, was heard saying in the episode, “I, Rickon Stark, Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North [promise to be faithful to King Viserys and his named heir, Princess Rhaenyra].”

The pledge of his allegiance was a result of Viserys’ wife Aemma and son Baelon’s death, which led to Princess Rhaenyra being named as the successor to Viserys. House Targaryen chooses Rhaenyra instead of Daemon, Viserys’ brother as the heir. Prince Daemon, played by Matt Smith, always wanted himself to be on the Throne.

So, the cameo of Rickon Stark is believed to be a fun easter egg, but there is a possibility that the prequel will be looking at the Stark family. This might go hand-in-hand with the civil war, Dance of the Dragons. The war comes after 30 years of the season opener.

We are aware of the threat of White Walkers and how the houses will eventually unite to fight them. However, we can expect Rickon Stark in the coming episodes or perhaps seasons of the show. There will also be mere wondering questioning the loyalty of the Starks to the Targaryens or perhaps Rhaenyra Targaryen.

I think it will be safe to say that the Starks will be explored more in the coming episodes. House of the Dragon airs on Sundays at 9 pm ET on HBO.
