The curtains are lifting on the Playoffs. All teams have done whatever they can, accumulating pieces, developing their players and forming strategies. It is very important to have good strategies when you go to war in the playoff scenario. One team uses them better than anyone especially on the offensive end and that team is the Denver Nuggets.
The Nuggets follow the more team oriented style of play. The ball flows through Jokic and it makes easier for the faster guards and forwards to cut to the basket. Plus having an aggressive coach like Mike Malone further energizes the players to run up and down the court.
Meet the Players
Nikola Jokic is arguably one of the best center in the league at the moment. He has been absolutely phenomenal this season with averages of 27.1 ppg, 7.9 apg and 13.8 rpg along with 1.5 spg. It shows why Jokic is in the conversation to receive the MVP this season.
The rest of the players averages have also elevated thanks to the playmaking abilities of Jokic plus he takes on most of the defenders. Aaron Gordon has been the 2nd leading scorer of the Nuggets with 15 ppg and 5.9 rpg.
Will Barton is one of the players who can create his own shots and he is putting up 14.7 ppg, 4.8 rpg and 3.9 apg. Monte Morris has been the Nuggets other playmaker with him averaging 12.6 ppg and 4.4 apg.
Looking at their playoff path, the Nuggets will be facing the Golden State Warriors in the 1st round. It will be an intense matchup with both teams having a variety of game plans. This will be the most important matchup in the Playoffs in the Western Conference. The victor will take 7 games to decide.
The next round, they will go against the Memphis Grizzlies or the Minnesota Timberwolves. Facing either of those teams will be advantageous for the Nuggets as both those teams lack playoff experience that the Nuggets have. The Nuggets can easily down them in 5 games.
The Western Conference Finals they will go head to head with Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, Utah Jazz or New Orleans Pelicans. Other than the Suns, the Nuggets will be able to face any of those teams. The Suns had beaten them in the previous playoffs and it feels like this time the Nuggets aim to return the favor to them.
In the NBA Finals, the Nuggets will have a tough time facing the Milwaukee Bucks and the Brooklyn Nets solely because the Bucks have depth in their roster while the Nets have Kyrie and KD. Any of the other teams, they will be able to go head to head and come out as victors.
With a very turbulent playoff ahead of them and a depleted roster, the Nuggets will rely on Coach Mike Malone and their star Nikola Jokic the most. Of course, it will be extremely difficult but not impossible. That ‘s the mindset that the Nuggets need to have if they want to pull it off.
