After two singers, Jeremy Rosado and Holly Forbes were removed from Season 21; the top eight singers for the semifinals were chosen, retaining Jershika Maple in the competition. On Tuesday, November 30, Season 22 of the singing reality show debuted; with a special performance by Season 19 champion Carter Rubin and singer-songwriter Mae Muller.
Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton’s wife and a former ‘The Voice’ coach appeared on the broadcast as a guest to voice her support for Carter Rubin’s recently released song ‘Horoscope.’ Carter was a member of Gwen’s team and, at the age of 15, was the show’s youngest male winner. Some of the first contestants to make it to the top 8 were Paris Winningham from Team Blake, Jim and Sasha Allen from Team Ariana; and the Girl Named Tom trio from Team Kelly. After a wild ride on ‘The Voice,’ Paris Winningham has officially made it to the top eight. The singer began her career on John Icon’s team before being snatched up by Blake Shelton; a country legend and eight-time winner of the show.
Wendy Moten is a crowd-pleaser and one of Blake Shelton’s personal favourites. Due to her unequalled singing ability and precise nuances; the 56-year-old crooner from Nashville has been tipped as the show’s winner from the start.
Lana Scott is the third and last member of Team Blake to make it to the final eight. The 28-year-old country music artist from Virginia had a tumultuous start to the competition; with Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton battling it out for her spot on their respective teams. Her family was a major fan of Blake’s music, therefore she eventually chose him.
Jim & Sasha Allen
a father and son duo, Jim and Sasha Allen were one of the show’s early saves in the most recent episode. Jim and Sasha’s path hasn’t been easy, as they’ve had to deal with a lot of backlash from the Internet. The pair is noted for its low-key renditions of ancient tunes. They did, however, sing a contemporary pop song during one of their top ten performances. They’re Team Ariana’s only survivors.
Girl Named Tom
In the semifinals, Team Kelly will be represented by the Girl Named Tom trio. They were the first in the blind auditions to receive the coveted four-chair turn. The band is made up of three siblings from Indiana: Bekah Liechty and her older brothers, Caleb and Joshua.
In this season of ‘The Voice,’ Hailey Mia, 14, is the youngest contestant. She had auditioned for the show when she was just 13 years old. Kelly had previously commended Mia, stating, “I’m so proud of you. I called this early on- I thought, she’s a dark horse. She’s gonna come along and she’s gonna be better and better. She’s gonna be the one.”
The coach added, “I swear to you, you can make the finale. You just keep getting better and better each week. You’re so phenomenal.”
In Episode 22, Team Legend’s Jershika Maple finished in the bottom three. Maple was able to continue her adventure on the show after America voted for her. The 24-year-old crooner works full-time as a security guard; but has been singing in the church since she was a child.
Team Legend’s second and last member is Joshua Vacanti. During the blinds, John Legend had blocked Ariana Grande in order to secure the outstanding vocalist for his side. The 28-year-old from Lockport initially received backlash on the Internet; but with his distinctive Broadway-style voice, he quickly made amends.
Season 21 of NBC’s “The Voice” airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. PT/ET.
