Curry's mother, Sonya, nearly aborted her child 34 years ago. This mother of three explained in her book, Fierce Love: A Memoir of Family, Faith, and Purpose, that she became pregnant again after having an abortion in high school.

According to a report in the Daily Citizen, she felt the Holy Spirit intervene as he was about to enter a Planned Parenthood clinic: "God had a plan for that child," she said. Wardell Stephen Curry II would not have existed if she had gone through that.

One could also argue that God had Sonya's best interests at heart. The basketball player's mother has now been able to share her story with many others, perhaps inspiring them to make difficult decisions in their own lives.
