Amy Pascal, the Spider-Man franchise’s producer, compares Tom Holland’s Peter Parker to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s previous representations. Since Kevin Feige convinced Sony Pictures to share the character with Marvel Studios in 2015; Spider-Man: No Way Home will be Holland’s third solo outing and sixth total appearance in the MCU.

Holland’s most recent cameo was in the post-credits scene in Venom: Let There Be Carnage; which changed the game in terms of the connection between Sony’s Spider-Man universe and the MCU.

Prior to Holland’s portrayal of the high-school student with spider-like superpowers in Captain America: Civil War in 2016; the legendary web-slinger was played by two well-known actors. From 2002 to 2007, Maguire appeared in Sam Raimi’s commercially and critically acclaimed trilogy; while Garfield starred in Marc Webb’s 2012 and 2014 Amazing Spider-Man films.

After the sequel’s failure, Feige persuaded Pascal to allow the superhero to enter the MCU. Multiple villains from previous Spider-Man films will return in No Way Home via the multiverse, bringing Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise full circle.

Fandango chatted with longtime Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal in honour of No Way Home tickets going on sale on “Spider-Monday”. During the interview, she was asked how Holland’s portrayal of Peter Parker differed from that of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

Despite the fact that she liked all three performances, she believes Holland “embodied everything about Peter Parker that everyone was searching for”. Read the whole of Pascal’s response below:

I think each of the actors brought their own kind of humanity to the character. All of them are brilliant and Tom is singular. I think that he’s embodied everything about Peter Parker that everybody was looking for. He’s funny and charming and… a fantastic athlete and a wonderful actor, and he has such humanity.
