Reese Witherspoon Teases Legally Blonde 3 Has Lots Of Jennifer Coolidge
According to Reese Witherspoon, Legally Blonde 3 should have a lot more Jennifer Coolidge. The sleeper smashes Legally Blonde, featuring Witherspoon in one of her most iconic roles as Elle Woods; a UCLA graduate who follows her ex-boyfriend, Warner Hunington III (Matthew Davis); to Harvard Law School, was released in 2001 by MGM.
Elle goes through a culture shock as she transitions from sorority life to the rigorous rigours of law school; while attempting to win Warner back from his new fiancée, Vivian Kensington (Selma Blair). She meets Paulette Bonafonté (Coolidge), a nail technician; who immediately becomes a companion and confidante.
Amanda Brown, who detailed her experiences and released a novel titled Legally Blonde, was the inspiration for the film.
In 2002, a sequel was released, following Elle’s journey to Washington, D.C. to make animal testing illegal. Then, in 2007, Broadway saw the premiere of Legally Blonde The Musical, which followed the events of the novel and the first film. Since then, fans have been clamouring for a third instalment to complete Elle’s story.
MGM revealed in 2018 that Elle’s return was nearing completion, reigniting anticipation for the next feature. Originally, the release date for Legally Blonde 3 was set for 2020; but no work was made until Mindy Kaling (The Sex Lives of College Girls) and Don Goor (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) were announced to be writing the script in 2020.
According to People, the latest information about Legally Blonde 3 comes from Witherspoon and Coolidge’s recent interview with Backstage. The project is still in the works, according to Witherspoon, and “It’s a lot of me and this lady,” referring to Coolidge.
Coolidge says she doesn’t know much about the movie yet, but she’s “dying to know more”. She has previously joked about being replaced in the new film, but Witherspoon guarantees that there will be plenty of Paulette in the film.
