Phoebe Waller-Bridge Quits Mr & Mrs. Smith Series Starring Donald Glover
By Christy Mathew
Phoebe Waller-Bridge has exited from the television adaptation of Mr & Mrs. Smith starring Donald Glover. The project was expected to release in 2022 and originally had Phoebe onboard as co-star and executive producer.
The original movie starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as warring assassins who are married to each other. As per THR, the Fleabag creator had creative differences from Donald as she had a different vision for the series. Reportedly, Donald came up with the idea and brought it to Phoebe.
They had both worked together previously on 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. Pheobe’s character will now be recast as Donald remains intact as co-creator, executive producer and star of the project. THR added that the split was amicable and they have remained friends.
The production for the series is expected to begin next year as the writing of the series is currently in process.
The showrunner for the series is Francesca Sloane, Donald’s Atlanta collaborator, who is also billed as co-creator and executive producer. Phoebe has other projects in development as she is currently in production for Indiana Jones 5.
The actress will be starring alongside Harrison Ford. A photo from behind-the-scenes had circulated online in July as the actress was seen in a 1960s vintage jacket-and-jeans look.
Donald is also busy with producing Mr & Mrs. Smith as he has a multiple-year deal with Amazon. He is also finishing work on season 3 of Atlanta which was confirmed to air on US TV channel FX in 2022.
