Paul Bettany (50) opened out to The Independent in an interview after recently earning an Emmy for his performance in Marvel’s WandaVision. In 2020, the actor discussed his private texts with Johnny Depp (58); which were made public during the latter’s libel fight against The Sun.
70,000 texts were mistakenly made public by Depp’s former lawyers during the lawsuit. Conversations between Johnny Depp and Paul Bettany; who co-starred in the 2010s The Tourist, 2014’s Transcendence, and 2015’s Mortdecai, were among the texts.
In a series of texts sent to Bettany between 2013 and 2014, Depp expressed his desire to burn and drown his then-wife, Amber Heard. Johnny Depp had also admitted to abusing booze and narcotics in texts to Paul Bettany.
Bettany recalled the trauma of having his communications with Johnny Depp (58) made public as a “strange moment” in an interview with The Independent.
He added, “…Can you imagine what it would be like, honestly, to have a bunch of lawyers go through every one of your emails and texts for 10 years? All I can tell you was that it was an unpleasant feeling.”
Paul Bettany also discussed a “years ago” event in which his privacy was compromised. He recalled a brief argument with his wife, Jennifer Connelly, in a subway, which was recorded and leaked to the public, in the interview.
The pair were said to be on the verge of splitting up. The Londoner continued: “I don’t feel that I signed some Faustian pact with the devil when I became an actor to give away all my privacy.”
