Andrew Garfield on Gwen Stacy’s Death Redemption in Spider-Man

"

In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Andrew Garfield discusses Spider- Man’s after Gwen Stacy’s death.

"

Garfield starred as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Sony’s The Amazing  Spider-Man film series, which ended with The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

"

Garfield’s Spider-Man tried to save his girlfriend, Gwen Stacy  (played by Emma Stone), as she plummeted to her death, shooting a web  and catching her, but the quick stop broke her neck and killed her at  the end of the film.

"

In the film, his character was seen mourning her death and attempting to go on as Spider-Man.

"

Instead, the character was rebooted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe  (MCU) with actor Tom Holland, who first played Spider-Man in Captain  America: Civil War and continued to play the role in crossovers and solo  films until Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which both Garfield and Tobey Maguire, the Spider-Man from Sam Raimi’s films, appeared and assisted Holland’s Spider-Man.

"

Garfield and Maguire, on the other hand, did not appear in the picture  as mere extras, but rather as fully fleshed-out characters who gave  their respective Spider-Men weight and redemption.

"

Garfield discussed his comeback to the character with Variety, focusing on the redemption he received following the loss of Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

"

Garfield’s redemption came when he saved MJ (Zendaya) from death,  succeeding in rescuing her in a similar method to what he had done with  Gwen, but without the horrific consequences.

"

Despite the fact that The Amazing Spider-Man 3 was never made, Garfield moved on to work on other successful projects.
