Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Rajasthan Royals, 13th Match (N), Wankhede, April 05, 2022, Indian Premier League
Match Result: RCB won by 4 wickets (with 5 balls remaining)
Player of the Match: Dinesh Karthik
Match Report: What a game of cricket! So many momentum shifts. Absolutely engaging. RCB have two wins in a row and RR have the first ‘L’ to their name in the points table. Butler continued his impressive form with an unbeaten 70. The fact that he remained unbeaten, stayed on the pitch for 20 overs is quite remarkable. What’s even more remarkable is the swashbuckling batsman hit no fours. He had 6 sixes to his name. Padikkal played the supporting role well. He batted beautifully for his 37 before being dismissed by Harshal Patel.
Willey failed to handle a beauty by Chahal and was out on not. Just when you thought things are going in RR’s way, and they will register their third consecutive win, in came Dinesh Karthik. Karthik is simply brilliant. He reminds me of Sangakkara, a guy who is hitting his peak in the end years of his career. What a finish. He scored 21 runs off Ashwin over. Credit to Shahbaz Ahmed too for capitalizing on weak deliveries. RCB have found a great finisher in the form of Dinesh Karthik.
Sanju Samson lost his wicket to a gem of a ball by Hasaranga. In came Hetmyer and he finished the innings pretty well. 169 was a pretty good total given how the pitch of Wankhede has behaved recently. In reply, RCB had a 50+ opening partnership, with both batters set and looked good to score big. But none of them got going and lost their wickets in 20s. Kohli had himself to blame in his runout, and of course, credit to Samson for his athleticism and accurate throw.
Faf du Plessis: To pull it out of nowhere, you need some great characters and DK is as great a character as you can get. His composure under pressure is amazing. He is really calm and such a great asset to us. We bowled really well, upto the 18th over and then Jos got some good shots.
Got a score which we thought was a bit above-par with the conditions and the surface spinning a bit. We started quite well though, but then Yuzi (Chahal) bowled really well to get them back in. But for me, the great thing about today once again was our ability to come back to win games out of nowhere.
Sanju Samson: I can’t point out one moment where we lost the game. I thought it was a great effort to put up that total on such a slow wicket after losing the toss. Jos and Hetmyer batted brilliantly at the death. Taking the match to the last over with the dew coming in was a great effort as well. (On whether he asked the umpires to change the ball because of dew) No I didn’t, I was confident about my bowlers. DK is someone with a lot of experience.
